Successor to the G10 reduces the pixel count from 14.7 to 10 megapixels in a move that sacrifices low ISO resolution for better performance at higher settings, and ends up a better camera for it. The G11 combines some of the best compact camera image quality with excellent levels of manual control, an optical viewfinder, flip-out screen, raw capability, superb battery life, flexible lens range and the ability to mount dedicated flashguns. It may not be the smallest camera out there (in fact it's one of the largest to use such a small sensor), but, if you can live with the compromises this all-round ability brings, then there's little that can touch it.

Opinion: I currently own the G10 and went to Best Buy to check out the G11, thinking of updating. Worse image quality, dials hard to use (small and hard to turn with sharp edges). Same short focal length. Protrusion in the back due to the articulating LCD, which is now smaller than on the G10 (another downgrade). No wonder Canon is losing ground on its P&S models.
Problems: Degradation in the G Series cameras, a downhill slide.
Opinion: Canon has stepped backwards on this G series camera, what gives???
Opinion: Based on release info only, I think the G11 is a step forward. Megapixels aren't as important as image quality, and if Canon can bring the G11 in line with the IQ a $500 point and shoot should have, they'll have a winner. The focal range is OK, but not exciting. I would rather have seen a 28-200 range or an even wider low end focal length, even at the extent of the tele end. I like the idea of the tilt/swivel LCD, although it would have been nice to keep it at 3 inches. I absolutely love the top mounted controls!! This camera could be the P&S to make the other makers (Yo, Nikon, listen up!) take up the serious P&S challenge. If I hadn't just bought a G9, I'd be all over the G11!
Problems: N/A
Opinion: Hey idiots: don't review unless you have tried it. Please.
I hope dpr deletes reviews posted before a camera even comes out. That includes my own protest post.
Problems: Problems? Reviews from idiots who have not even picked up the camera.
