10.0 megapixels | 3" screen | 36 – 360 mm (10×)

The Canon super-zoom PowerShot SX120 IS was launched in August 2009 as the successor to the SX110 IS. It features the same 10x zoom lens (36-300mm equiv.) and 3 inch LCD of its predecessor, but has seen the resolution increase to 10MP. The rest of the features are similar to the the SX110 IS including P/A/S/M shooting modes but with faster Face Detection that can detect up to 35 faces. Despite the lack of a real wide-angle and the usual image quality issues at higher ISOs in this class the SX120 IS is a great choice for anyone on a budget wanting a well-specified camera with full photographic control and a big zoom range.

Opinion: This camera is amazing...no doubt about it. I did this post since it's my 1st time and because I am so happy with this Camera. I got it just today and it is very easy to use. I've learned the features in 3 hours. I gave the features a 5 rating because there aren't many, that's the wonderful part, so a newbie or savvy photographer can start taking great pictures immediately and they come out birlliant! Blue's are blue, yellow's are yellow and whites are whites...you get the picture...LOL. Image quality is superbly crisp, simple to use, and great bang for the buck. Definitely would recommend. I will post some pics ASAP.

Problems: Construction is OK. The camera could use a grip of some sort. Other than that I have no complaints.

Opinion: I bought the SX120 IS to replace my SX110 IS precisely because I wanted the advantages of DIGIC 4, along with the convenience of the print/share button for ease of use with the digital teleconverter. Well, the print/share button was eliminated on the SX120 IS, so now you have to go into the menu to change to the digital option you want, and the DIGIC 4 image processor has been dumbed down in the SX120 IS; a main attraction of DIGIC 4 is that you can erase segments of recorded photos by designating the first and last ones, and then everything in between will also be erased, like in the DIGIC 4 on the G10. This camera has just been dumbed down so much that it is virtually worthless. Waste of money.

Problems: This camera has been dumbed down too much, and the features which would have made it a great camera have been left out. Also, the LCD does not have enough dots; it should have 460,000 instead of only 230,000.

Opinion: I bought this camera as an upgrade to my SX100 IS, on the assumption that two versions later, ie 8MP up to 10 MP, better processor, features etc I would get an up to date version of my old camera. The spec published on this site said that the SX120 can take JPEGS in Normal, Fine and Super-Fine. Well, the SX100 can , but the SX120 only has Normal and Fine. As a consequence the JPEGS on large/fine are about half the size of the 8MP super-fine ones on the old model. They simply aren't as good. You wouldn't notice this unless you compared the two models. Also, the battery life is minimal. About half that of the previous model. The camera itself is smaller and more angular, and the whole thing has been 'de-specced' presumably to make it competitive at the price-point where it sits in the market. It also has that annoying tendency on auto to know what it wants to do better than you do. It takes over to an extent that is too intrusive. Not a bad camera overall, and the results are fine. Just not as good as previous models in the series and too many compromises getting in the way of quality.

Problems: No 'super-fine' option available.
Battery life the worst I have come across.

Opinion: A fantastic little camera with full manual controls. A massive step-up in image quality over previous SX models due to the new digic IV processor I guess. Excellent battery life, 600+ pics so far on just two sets of rechargeables. The value for money is amazing, highly recommended
