Canon PowerShot SX200 IS
12.1 megapixels | 3" screen | 28 – 336 mm (12×)
Canon's young SX range gets a serious facelift in the SX200 IS, which goes head to head with Panasonic's TZ models in the increasingly crowded 'big zoom/small camera' sector. Much more of a premium model than previous SX cameras, , the 12.1 MP sensor and 12x zoom (with a 28mm equiv. wide-angle) are wrapped up in a quality metal body and, in the SX200 IS offers more photographic control than most competitors. Image quality in good light is impressive, but in lower light at higher ISO settings it's slightly below par, and the new user interface is a step backwards in our opinion, making the high price hard to justify.

The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS is a very capable and compact ultra zoom camera. It offers very good photo quality, a 28 - 336 mm lens, a nice combination of automatic and manual controls, a large LCD, and a HD movie mode. It's not perfect though; it has a weak, slow-to-charge flash, battery life is below average, and you can't zoom while recording a movie mode. Despite that, the PowerShot SX200 is a good choice for a travel camera, and it earns my recommendation.

Canon’s PowerShot SX200 IS is the company’s first attempt at creating a pocket-sized super-zoom camera, and it’s certainly hit the ground running. It may be a little too chunky to squeeze into the smallest pockets, but it’ll easily slip into bags...
