Opinion: This camera has been my first canon. Previously I used sony and Fuji cameras. My selection has always been SLR like category. This has been first time to use such a compact camera but definitely I must confess its performance and photo quality is more than my Fuji 9600.
Night shots are very successful. You can trust the automatic settings. It knows what to do. But on the other hand if you want to use some manual adjustment it also allows you to do that. Aperture and shutter priorities give you lots of manual selections. Usage of menu is so easy. You can navigate intuitively among the menu options. Auto focus is fast compared to some other cameras I used in the camera shop before buying it. The size and weight is so convenient for the travel. I used to travel with my semi pro SLR like camera previously but it was heavy and not easy to carry. But this canon does it all and sometime more with a small size and weight. To use standard SD memory card is another positive point for me. Because SD cards are relatively cheaper and very easy to find. 336mm tele is providing 12X zoom which is really so good for such a small sized camera. Normally in the trips I used to need minimum 10X zoom. That was the reason of using SLR like super zoom cameras previously. But this canon is totally changed my mind. I had some macro shots and very satisfied with that too. White balance is always correct and colors are vivid. Image stabilization works well. I tried it in some night shots and it handles the shakings. Higher ISO values bring successful results. The noise in the higher ISO is acceptable for me. But if they had placed a CMOS sensor instead of CCD it would be much more successful in the higher ISO. Flash is satisfactory in distance.
No need to carry out bulky cameras for a good shot. This camera can do what the others can. Definitely I’m not comparing it with the SLR class. I can recommend to anyone who wants to buy this camera but I have seen SX210 as a successor of this camera but the differences are design, higher zoom and larger aperture range in the new one. This size and zoom is very convenient for travels.
The most I liked in this camera has been different color selection. It is boring always they sell either silver or black camera. Thanks god that I can lately see different colors in the cameras. This series has different body colors.
Problems: I can only note the flash always pops up when you power it on. I wish it had been manually controlled. Otherwise it is always on in a sunny environment and annoying. Lately I used SX210 in a shop and have seen it still has the same pop up flash problem with the power on.
Opinion: I absolutely love this camera!
High quality is right there and obvious from the moment you feel it in your hand.
(It feels great and has perfect balance.)
Real optical zoom without quality loss!
For the best performance, I suggest using a new SDHC one and not a standard SD card.
Want more control over exposures? The PowerShot SX200 IS is what you'll want in your pocket always.
Some may consider it "pricey" but when it comes to cameras...you pretty much get what you pay for.
With Cannon----nothing could be truer!
Opinion: Nice little beast
Problems: So far so good, but flash is so annoying, hope for some firmware update!
Opinion: I test this SX200 for few days and like most of the last compact cameras the sensor don't satisfied to much. For be one of the biggest compact on this days the quality of the picture is not better than the others. Nothind to say for the zoom, but the stabilization is leasy, some time you have take the same picture twise. Whatever good camera.
Problems: Stabilizator, but maybe was just this one.
Opinion: I purchased this camera just prior to Christmas '09 after hours and hours of reading reviews and comparing models. I finally chose this one because of it's great zoom (336mm) while still having a fairly wide angle lens (28mm), the manual settings options, uncommon amongst most compact point-and-shoots, and it's overall compact size.
I was concerned about the numerous complaints of the pop-up flash being in the way and really, it isn't. Yes, if you're used to having an internal flash or have abnormally large figures, maybe, but the camera provides the user with ample room to hold it in various positions.
This camera takes amazing pictures, with or without the flash, compensating quite nicely in low light conditions without much noise. I frequently use the flash for fill-in, over-riding the auto flash setting and find my pictures are never over-exposed.
I was a little leery about the proprietary battery pack, but have been impressed with how long it lasts between charges and the two hour maximum charge time.
Overall, I think this is a great camera for the money and for someone who desires some SLR features in a compact form, this is the camera for you.
Problems: I have not encountered any problems with this camera. I have taken about 800 shots with it so far.
Opinion: I bought this camera recently in preference to the Lumix TZ7 and am really happy with it. The picture quality, particularly macro is excellent. Battery life is superb. It has a good solid feel to it. Start up time is very quick and video quality better than I expected. It is a superb back up to my Nikon D3 & D90.
Problems: The pop up flash is annoying sometimes.
Opinion: It has the best shot in this range.
Opinion: Never use the flash so I placed a piece of heavy-duty tape over it which keeps it out of the way. But I can see why so many people have complained about this.
Image quality great, the IS is a saviour! Battery life is long and plentiful - best battery to date.
Can recommend as a good point and shoot.
Opinion: Strikingly good image quality in strong light and low
ISO, but only average in lower light or at higher ISO,
hence the score of 4.5 out of 5.
Power-up and zoom operation are both fast.
The degree of User control is truly excellent, which
together with the CHDK hack for shooting RAW
(.DNG) and allowing optical zoom during the occasional
video that I shoot was a key factor in my choosing this
camera instead of the alternatives.
My camera was approx £220 less £45 cashback from
Canon, so in my eyes was a bargain.
If I broke mine or it was stolen would I buy another
SX200 as a direct replacement? Yes. Absolutely.
Problems: Only two gripes:
As with most Point and Shoots, the flash is truly,
hopelessly, pathetic, to the degree that I have
ordered a Metz Mecablitz 28 CS-2 slave (which handily
will also function as a slave with my 580 EXII when I'm
using my DSLR)
The smart but smooth body makes the camera easy to
drop when removing it from its carrycase; after one
bounce - thankfully on soft carpet - on Day One I have
been careful to use the wrist strap first and am
currently looking for a piece of thin, sticky, rubberized
plastic to cut with cosmetic care that allows better
pinch grip.
