<p>The Casio EX-S10 was, at the time of launch in January '08, the world's slimmest digital camera - a crown Casio seems loathe to relinquish. Into its tiny body the S10 manages to fit a variety of the latest consumer-friendly features including a series of automatic shutter modes - smile shutter, panning detection and blur minimization. It also includes the YouTube movie capture mode that Casio pioneered in its recent compacts. Unfortunately the camera is a lot more impressive than the results it produces, which are marred by unreliable auto focus and exposure systems and - for a camera so obviously aimed at the social user - the flash performance is disappointing. Opinion: It's been awhile since I have hand a "CASIO" camera, I picked up the Z750 years ago
and retired it only to bring it back out again because most of the newer point and
shoots I find to be disappointing till I picked this one up. This little treasure is very
easy to use will fit into a shirt pocket with ease and have room to spare! LCD screen
was very good and the picture quality was fantastic, with only a tad over-saturation of
colors at times. This little pocket rocket does a lot of things right! Even the video
mode was great and it allows you to shoot via right into iPod mode, great for doing
video blogs etc...
Problems: Only gripe is I wish it had image stabilization, but it shoots fast enough so this issue
is minimized. Bigger LCD would be nice. ;) pictures on LCD look a tad washed out
right after you take a picture but then look fine later, I guess the processing takes
longer.
Opinion: This is the thinnest and lightest camera today. No redeye with flash!! Good quality.
Put it on your belt and you will NOT feel it on! Weighs less than most cell phones!
Has family recognition software, wait for smile feature! I have 11 cameras and guess
which one is with me always?
Opinion: Just back from a trip to England. Had this super thin digicam on my belt the entire time. I was able to whip it out and take pictures in an instant. Response time was great. Buttons are small but usable. Nice bright screen. Took quite good photos. A great camera to capture vacation moments without taking up any room at all. Some photos were really quite stunning. Battery life is pretty good - at least a couple hundred shots - but I recharged every night to be sure. I recommend this camera for what it is - super convenient. the video capture is very cool and very clear as well.
Problems: The flash is certainly on the weak side - to be expected. The focal range is a bit lacking on the wide angle side. The instruction manual is poor ( for instance, there is a image stabillization, but no mention of how it works at all). It doesn't have a grippy surface, so be sure to use the strap.
Opinion: I bought the EX-S10 to have a "pocket" camera I could take anywhere. After a few days of playing with it, I have to admit that the WOW factor is high. Every time I use it, I think "WOW." For just over $200, I wasn't expecting much, but Casio has far exceeded my expectations. The EX-S10 is easy to use and actually takes decent pictures, though I think 10MP is overkill for this market. It won't replace my D80, but I'll now have a fairly decent camera when I wouldn't have before. Good job, Casio. Tripod mount? You're just showing off, right? I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
Problems: No real problems, but in a perfect world, this camera would have a standard mini USB connector and would charge the battery from it. The LCD glass appears to scratch easily.
