Opinion: I LOVE this camera, It takes AWESOME Pictures and is very easy to use.

Problems: The only problem I had was the door for the batteries broke and it was going to cost me more to fix it than the camera is worth now.
After viewing the way the door hocked up by 2 little tiny plastic hooks I think it could be made better here.

Opinion: Bought mine in early 2001 and it's been a buddy eversince, realiable and exceeds expected results. Photographs are always great especially during my travels. I will continue to keep it even if I get a replacement with better features. :)

Problems: With age, it has become a bulky camera compared to the newbies...

Opinion: I've had this camera for 3 and half years now and taken 1000's of photos. Outdoor image quality is excellent, although typically a bit on the dark side (easy to fix with editing software). Battery life on a set of 4 Costco alkalines is decent; I get 150-250 shots per set, mostly outdoors, flash-less photography. I rarely use the LCD.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with this camera

Problems: Construction is a mixed bag - the improtant stuff (i.e., the stuff that lets the camera be functional) is pretty well made - it's survived several drops, including a 3ft drop onto concrete. However, the battery cover broke subsequent to that (unlreated to the drops) and the plastic case scuffs easily.

Shot to shot lag time is irritatingly slow (then again, this camera is ancient by electronics standards).

The lens sometimes won't retract after powering down the unit, requiring me to cycle the power a couple of times for it to retract.

This camera is quite chunky and doesn't fit very comportably in my pocket - my next camera will definitely be a lot slimmer.

Opinion: I am very pleased with this camera, which I have had for nearly three years. It does what I need it it to do perfectly. It is very simple, takes good quality images and has an excellent battery life using NiMH rechargeables. I use the camera for work in some dirty and dusty places and it has continued to work faultlessly.
It is big, clunky and doesn't have any fancy features, but it does the basic things well. The LCD image quality is poor and hard to use in bright light. I don't use the LCD much as I prefer the optical viewfinder. At the time that I bought the camera it was a leader at the price with its three times zoom lens.
Well done Fuji.

Problems: The Exif download software is erratic, sometimes hanging my PC.

Opinion: This is my second digicam and in some ways an extension of my first one (Fuji FP 1400). I have found it to out-perform what its specifications show. It has taken some very good night shots without flash. I take a lot of landscapes, but I print only up to 8.5" X 11" photos. The flash range is somewhat limited (not more than most point and shoot cameras). It is even tough, surviving my wife's fall on the sidewalk (some scratches on the LCD monitor). Where it is weak is in speed of operation. It missed every car that was running 150 m.p.h. at the Long Beach G.P. All of my other cameras did fine.

Problems: 1. The battery door occasionally falls open.
2. The clamshell cover has a hair trigger and often starts to close if I am shooting in the portrait position rather than landscape.

Opinion: Beware, this camera is a mediocre design and its construction is flimsy. I bought a unit refurbished by Fuji and guaranteed to be as new. The zoom juddered, and it was clear there was a tracking fault. So I exchanged it for another - and guess what, this also had a tracking fault! If two cameras have the same fault, this suggests a design flaw, and I won't be trying out a third unit. The picture quality if fine, but for the moment I'll be sticking with my Fuji 2200, which is great, except it has no zoom.

Problems: Feels plasticy. Zoom may be prone to tracking errors. No case. LCD window prone to scratching and cannot be seen in daylight.

Opinion: I bought the 2400 in Jan 2001. Back then the camera seemed to stand out from what was a limited market, things certainly have changed in the last 15 months!
Like the others who have reviewed the 2400 I found the daylight picture quality excellent, both in detail and colour reproduction. Move inside to a dimly lit building or wait 'til night time and the camera shows it flaws. Like many lower end digital cameras the flash is a weak affair and can produce disappointing results compared to some film p+s's used to take the same scene . Another big problem that I found with the flalsh was that it caused numberous white spots to appear in photos taken. I think these are caused by little dust particles on the lense. The red eye reduction mode did just that- reduced rather than elimanated red eye. Turning off the flash, putting the camera on a table tripod and using the timer mode to release the shutter can yield some good results but with shutter speeds of up to 0.5 seconds subject movement is strictly forbidden!
Also in subdued lighting light sources can confuse the autofocus. Locking (half press shuter release)the AF and recomposing is needed here, its just remembering to do it that my problem!
My night time photos have improved leaps and bounds with the help of an external pivot head automatic flash.

There is noticable barrel distortion so for instance close ups of faces can look unflattering if a little thought is not given to composition/lighting

The cheap construction and poor finish is the most disappointing thing about the 2400. When the zoom unit failed on mine it didn't really come as a surprise. This camera just does not give the feeling that it will last.
One thing that i have learnt from the 2400 is that when I do go to upgrade the top item on the must have list is construction quality. No matter how good the rest of camera is, if it is not built to last its just money down the drain.
So summing up : Good image quality but despite Fujifilms experience building cameras this one is poorly thought out and designed.

Problems: The cheap construction is this cameraa main pitfall. Its fragile and because the plastic scratches so easily, it can look very old very quickly if the upmost care is not taken handling this camera. The zoom unit failed for no good reason on mine, three weeks out of warrenty, and took 125 Euro to repair.

Opinion: I agree with most users out there, the camera is excellent value!
My biggest beefs are the body construction and iso setting.
I've replaced the battery cover in the first 6 months. The lens cover doesn't click closed or open now. Poor design. The service guy at FujiFilm in Toronto agreed, he's seen many of them.
Number 2 is the lighting, in a room with a lamp, keep it out of the field of view. The exposure depends on the brightest object, not the center of the frame as it should be. In poor lighting the exposure can be as long as 1/2 second. Lots of hand shake!
In good conditions, you get excellent results.
My first digicam, very impressed with 2megapixel. Not sure why you want a 6megapixel (fuji's interpolated super ccd) unless you want to print out posters!

Problems: As above:
Body construction, take care of it, I didn't. I taken about 4000 shots in 16 months of use.
Sensitivity in lighting. Pick your shots carefully in low light.

Opinion: I bought this camera in december 2000 and made more than 4000 photos. This is my first digital camera and I am very happy with it. The picture quality is very good. The camera is very easy to use.

I don't really like the plastic construction. It feels and looks rather 'cheap'... But I must say it's very strong. I dropped the camera once to the floor and it still works perfectly!

I've had never any problems with downloading (or is it uploading?) the photos to my computer. I use Windows ME and the program ACDSee for viewing my photos.

Last year I won a photo-contest with a photo I made with this camera! That proofs you don't need an expensive digital camera to win a contest. This FujiFilm camera is all you need.

Problems: You can not connect a external flash to this camera. The internal flash is OK for objects up to 2-3 meters far. If you want more (objects at a higher distance), you have a problem. I solved this by using a slave-flash unit. With this unit I can use a large external flash.
