Opinion: Max memory card size? I love my MX-500. It is old and slow, but takes GREAT pictures. Unfortunately, I needed to upgrade the memory card, so i bougtht 2-64MB cards. They don't work. I called FUJI, and they say only 32MB cards work. If that's true, that's too bad. If anyone knows a way around this, let me know.

I still love my MX-500. Very sturdy, except for the fragile clips on the battery compartment door. The lens cover design is one of the best I've seen to date. The case is tough, and the shutter release placement avoids any possibility of taking pictures of your thumb! The flash is very bright, and takes better than average pictures indoors. But outdoor shots are amazing. Great, crisp clarity and color. very saturated. Versatile camera, better than most in it's class (1.5MP) if you're not in a hurry.

Problems: These 64MB cards just won't work. I saw Eric's post, where he mentioned the slowness with 64MB cards. The camera recognizes the card, but when downloading the pictures they always come out corrupt. The very thin, fragile clips on the battery door break very easily (that is, if you drop the camera, the weight of the batteries can actually snap the door clip, and render the battery compartment unsafe. This happened to me, the night I bought the camera. luckily, only one of 2 clips broke, and the camera has worked reliably with a slightly askew battery door for 2 years.

Opinion: I have a whole lot of trouble getting pics in focus with this thing. I bought it when it was tops on the market, but have had trouble getting a printable (i.e. publishable) photo out of it.
Admittedly, I'm a professional writer who only uses a camera when the magazine I write for is desperate. But I've had even these boring headshots refused with this machine.

Problems: Focus. Resolution.

Opinion: Love the camera,, great pics and none of the problems downloading if you use a flashpath adapter. Had for two years and will update someday,, but for now it is just fine.

Problems: Does eat batteries but don't have the serial + battery download problems with the flashpath floppy adapter.

Opinion: I have had the MX500 since Nov '99 and have found it to be reliable and an excellent camera for it's time. Image quality and true to life color are probably it's strongest points.

Although I am considering getting a newer Camera in the next 6 months, I shall definitely have a continued use for the old MX.

Great viewing & slide show options when using the Camera as a photo album.

Problems: Sometimes during battery changeover setup returns to defaults. No big deal, just convienence issue.

Slow shutter button response for unanticipated snapshot, but this is atypical of Cameras of this era.

Opinion: The camera seems a bit heavy on batteries when downloading to a PC.

Opinion: Owned this camera for about two years now, and It hasn't let me down once, easy to use, and returns the brightest sharpest pic's I have seen with out adjustment on some other camera's even at more pixels use.
Macro's are fantastic, and landscapes are best, dull lighting needs adjustment.
Love the shutter over lense, something when I was buying was inportant, also th efact it uses normal batteries, when travelling you cannot get to a plug socket sometimes, but batteries can be found even in the depths of India or Peru...

Problems: Slightly bulky, slow serial download, no optical zoom
