With the F200 EXR, Fujifilm is out to regain its low-light crown, based its unique new 'switcheable' EXR sensor technology, which allow you to tune the sensor for different shooting conditions. Even without the EXR modes, the F200 is a nice and well-specified camera. It's built around a very useful lens (28-140mm is not a range you'll find matched by many cameras this small), and offers image quality at least up to the standards of its contemporaries. And the EXR modes are worth having - the high-ISO 'SN' mode may not be world-beating, but the dynamic range mode is astonishingly capable if you're happy with the 6MP output (which is plenty for most applications).

Opinion: I just purchased the f200exr. I also own a panasonic LX3 and olympus e3. Took all three to a party. The results... well of course the e3 is a steller performer, but between the lx3 and the f200, at high iso, I found the f200 results to be more natural. Even at standard setting I found the lx3 pics looked over processed. The f200 more film like. So far I like it.

Opinion: As a previous happy Fujifilm F30 & F100 user I found the F200EXR a quantum leap forward & a joy to use. Set on EXR auto the F200EXR is amazing - it sets itself to optimise any scene including macro. The face detection is fast & accurate - this is the perfect grand parents camera - able to track fast moving tots. I love the high dynamic range setting, & the low light shots are better than the F30. Ideal for anyone who just wants to set the camera on auto & take the best photos under all conditions. For the more technically adventurous the F200EXR offers a huge range of settings. After 300+ shots I am still happily exploring the capabilities of the F200EXR. It is the camera I take everywhere.

Problems: The mode dial is too easy to move inadvertently.

Opinion: I come from a 10 mpix Canon SD900 and found the F200EXR to be
comparatively uglier (the metallic rings around the lens look cheap IRL), it has a
more confusing dial (too many modes "too many notes, my dear Mozart"), no
mini-usb port (proprietary fucking connector) and the charger is not so
compatible with non US plugs.

The high iso mode is superior to Cannon ISO 3200 no-flash mode, but only by
an insignificant amount.

The high dynamic range mode is also just barely superior to regular mode. I
would give it one extra stop of nuances and detail, but nowhere near DSLR.

Photos and video - they feel exactly normal for a compact, nothing in them even
remotely touches the DSLR level.

Problems: Problem #1 - video quality is inferior to my 2 year old Canon SD900 camera.
There are pulsating ugly blobs of color in low light mode. Apparently the low light
champion forgot to upgrade the low light video mode. The compression is also
poor - 9mbps compared to 15mpbs packed by the Cannon. That makes the
image look somewhat more blurry and compression artifacts stand out much
more. You cannot set the bitrate of the video to 15mbps but you cal set the
rezolution lower (exactly the opposite of what I wanted). Also, the camera will not
record a video over 2Gb. If the size is 640px, this means 30 min (15 min o video
per GB).

The camera does not show how many minutes of video you have left on the card
- it always limits to 30 min. If you film 10 minutes, it still shows a free space of
30 minutes. So it is useless. It basically tells me how much I can record in a
single video not how much free space there is.
