Opinion: very good
Problems: movie
Opinion: excellent
Opinion: I've purchased the F200 for about a month ago and made hundreds of pics.
All I can say, that IQ is very good. Just as good as my S9600 that has a brighter bigger lens. It is indeed sharper and clearer than my S9600.
EXR mode is useful but not that much, still, DR and HR modes are excellent. SR mode needs further development I think.
Construction is great. It is a quality product made of good material.
Purple fringing is well handled (almost none).
Lens could be brighter, but not a problem in everyday use because up to ISO 400 noise is very well handled. ISO 800 is okay also.
I give only 4,5 for value for money cause this camera is a but on the pricey side, but it worth every penny, just browse the net for quality images.
Focusing is fast and accurate.
Shutter lag is non-existent.
Shot-to-shot time is good.
Viewing and browsing images on the LCD is great and a joy to use.
If you want a pockatable camera, dont mind it has only 5x zoom and only a VGA video and want the BEST image quality for the price (the Canon S90 costs almost twice) then buy this camera.
Problems: - Flash is placed in the wrong place, it's always in the way when holding the camera
- The pre-programmed sharpening / saturation modes are confusing: astia (normal mode) is much vivid than provia (so-called soft mode), that is strange.
- Battery life is weak - a spare accu is a must.
- Zoom is a bit unprecise, too fast.
- Best continious mode is only in 3mp mode.
These are NOT big problems.
I am happy to say that NONE of the problems is about general IQ.
Opinion: Not bad while it lasted (Oct 10-Dec 30), but sensor died after less than 3 months, 1477 pictures to be precise.
Picture quality was decent, video nothing to write home about. Camera was a little on the heavy side, felt solid, but...
Problems: The sensor died suddenly after only a few months of pretty normal (family, travel) use. Playback still worked fine but camera and video mode just showed (and recorded) black with a little bit of snow. Fujifilm USA claimed that I had not adequately protected the camera and would not cover the repair.
What could I do? Buy a Canon or Nikon or Olympus, all of which have lasted years under similar usage. Perhaps I just got a bad one, but I won't miss this Fuji or ever buy another.
Opinion: I find this camera to be the best value at the moment of march of 2010. Canon S90 two times more expensive and doesn't have that truly amazing dynamic range wich set this camera completely apart from others.
Purple fringing seems not a problem for lens, that was a proble for F30.
Well done Fuji - idea about exr ir great, keep developing it.
I would recomend to make a little bit bigger sensor in real terms and faster lens, less zoom range.
Problems: It is not possible to use flash in exr dynamic range mode. Limited controls - no control over flash power.
Opinion: Pros:
Good dynamic range
Problems: Film simulation nice but some users may prefer more natural color rendition.
Noisy sensor ... in camera noise issues even at base iso ...
Poor focusing issues indoors unless your subject is within 3 meters or less.
Very little control over imaging parameters. No real aperture adjustment. Fixed
aperature with neutral density filter.
Poor flash range.
Opinion: I'll start by saying what this site conclud in his review. This camera is a great allrounder (as far as compact go) ; wide-angle, great lens, fast operations, you can rely on auto, some controls, best dynamic range, one of the best high iso. If I had to choose a compact camera to live on a desert island (quite a non-scense scenario), I would take this one.
The Exr sensor work just as advertised, only let down is the HR mode that is not up to the previous model (f100fd) in definition.
A lot have been said about this camera so I will just write on the points that seem important to me:
- The f30/31 versus f200 high iso argument : it's really splitting hair. They are 95 % equivalent with the former relaying more on noise reduction. Except for battery life, the f200 is a better camera on every aspects. I have own both.
- Fuji "watercolor" high ISO are gone (SN mode) ! That's a fantastic new. From the last 2 years preceding the f200 launch, Fuji have been relying to much on noise reduction to deliver noise free high ISO without raw for the compacts. It gave "clean" results, but when the details are gone in jpg, it's over, you can't bring them back. But you can apply NR to the f200 files if there are to noisy for you.
-The jpg allow amazing post processing possibility, very close to what you can do in RAW (and I work with foveon RAW files).
-Contrary to the finding in the review here, I found the image stabilisation to be quite effective, more like 2-3 stops that one. I had 90% optimum sharpness results at 1/8 or even 1/4.
Problems: -The lens is beautiful, but have barrel at wide-angle.
-Getting the best of the camera is quite complex, you can trust EXR auto to make the right choices, but it mean continus focusing (battery drain).
-The zoom is way two sensitive. It only can be use if your are very delicate with it.
-No auto iso in full manual.
-The camera alway prefer to use old fuji's "image stablisation" (raising ISO) when allow to instead of slowing the shuter. Workaround is to fix the auto ISO that is acceptable to you.
-Don't use Astia or Velvia at high ISO, the will have chroma noise faster that Provia (even in SN).
Opinion: Pleased with this addition to my compact collection chosen for its wider lens usefull sometimes over my F30 , I still think the F30 as good for PQ and will keep it , The F200 for such a cheap price was Irrisistable and better PQ than the F70 we allso tried but returned , the F200 is a bargain for its picture quality which like the F30 is outstanding .
Problems: lower battery life than the F30, and slightly weaker flash to are the only things ive noticed so far ..
Opinion: A very good camera. The EXR sensor is effective and very useful, specially in Low-Light conditions. The Image Stabilizer is very good. Brilliant colors.
Problems: The menus are difficult to manage.
Sometimes pictures can be noisy, but less noisy than other brands' similar cameras.
