Opinion: Bought this because it looked rugged. Actually works in
the water.
Problems: Next to impossible to take pictures in bright sunlight or in
the dark. Have a problem with the focus when zooming
and help provided wasn't useful. Cannot get the software
installed with Vista Ultimate (tried 4 times). Also very
difficult to un-install. USB only works with a good battery.
No power through USB. Not compatible with Picture
viewer on Sony PS3
Opinion: Bought this as an additional small camera that provided
some water and environment resistance. The case is metal
and seems durable. Fairly solid overall. Features are
average for small cameras these days, but the menu display
could be made better. The buttons on the back are very
small making it difficult to cursor with the 4 way. Though
it's fairly easy to use, the flash is underpowered for regular
close shots, and the image quality varies. I find the best
photo are when there is a lot light. Otherwise low light
photos or shadow areas are grainy. Auto white balance,
will vary except for daylight. It's a center auto-focus so I
find myself taking a second photo to make sure it's in focus
since point and shoot is not a guarantee. Underwater is
actually OK. Video is OK, not great. But for $139 at Costco
including 4 Gb memory and case, it wasn't a big
investment. I think it's a good throw around camera at the
beach, or something good for a child that wants a digital
camera.
Problems: Image quality inconsistency.
Poor flash
Opinion: Easy to use underwater. Fun little camera. Good "knocking around" unit, but image quality holds it back from serious image making. Linking several video clips into one long clip is a good feature. Zooms while capturing video, but has difficulty focusing while zooming.
Problems: easy to get fingerprints on lens. Very average image quality. Not fragile, but "shockproof" may be a bit of a stretch.
Opinion: I did not have a "rugged" water-resistant camera to take with me on vacation, so purchased this for that specific task. Camera is well made, with a metal body and simple controls.
I normally use Canon compacts, and next to them, the picture quality of the Fuji is very poor, especially in low light conditions. Results are acceptable in well-lit situations, which is where I will be using this camera mostly, so this was a reasonable purchase for me.
Problems: Poor video quality, with very poor sound pickup and lots of camera operation noise on the video soundtrack. Disappointing to say the least.
