Opinion: The 215 is my second digital camera I have owned and I have had experience with many others.
The 215 is great, image quality is good but some pictures may turn out a little grainy(1\40).
I've made 5x7's turn out good better than any scanned image I've seen. The digital zoom is also usful, but I often just crop when I download the pictures on a fast usb.
But with this camera there is a major problem with this camera being that it can't take rechargable batteries, It will damage the camera, and the warrenty dosen't cover it.
Trust me I learned from experience. The lcd became streaky(with pink aand green lines gowing down the screen) lucky i was able to get it fixed.
I don't know how hp could have released a camera that coud not support rechargables.
To add to the problem the camera eats a few batteries.
Apart from this the camera is great I recommend tis camera to anyone who dosent mind the extra battery cost.
Problems: rechargable batteries not supported.
piddley flash.
piddley compactflash card(4mb fit five superfine picts)
Opinion: I received this camera as a x-mas gift. My wife purchased it from Wal-Mart during their after Thanksgiving 4 hour sale for a bargain price of $165. The kit came with a serial cable, 4 batteries, 4MB CF, and an AC power source.
As soon as I took it out of the box, something was wrong. I put the batteries in it, viewed a few things with it and noticed a internal rattle. I took out the batteries and the compact flash... it sounded like a loose screw inside the camera! I opened up the battery and CF doors and tried to rattle the culprit out. POW! A spark few out of the CF slot about a foot long! I figured it must have been a metal screw and it somehow shorted out the built in flash circuitry that must have charged. It went back into the box instantly.
Later that evening, I decided to get it out again for kicks and see if it still worked. To my surprise, IT DID! I took some shots and downloaded them to my laptop with the packaged software. Slow, put it got them there. Nice images.
I took some more pictures and loaded the software on my desktop. Using the software, I deleted some of the not-so-good pictures out of the cameras CF. That was it. Afterwards, I could get it to communicate with the computer at all. Removing the batteries and reinstalling them, checking cables and settings on the computer fixed nothing.
It went back into the box and was returned the next day.
Since then, I've spent 2 weeks on this wonderful site researching affordable cameras. I've purchased a Fuji 1400 Zoom and LOVE IT! Read my review on that one.
Problems: Slow serial connection.
Can't use rechargable batteries.
Some type of factory defect.... loose part inside of camera case.
Bad frame rate on LCD.
Very bad battery life... about 20 flash pics.
Opinion: Takes pretty good pictures but nothing about this camera is robust. Small memory and no rechargeable batteries make it a big turn off. The readout is difficult to see and entirely counter-intuitive. Yes, it can be navigated but it's a pain.
Problems: This camera eats batterys like nobody's business. Even when I installed new batteries several times and didn't take any shots, they would be dead in about a day. Yes, I made sure that it was off before putting it in the carrying case.
Opinion: i purchased the camera to download pictures for auctions.there goes my profit.
Problems: i went through 4 packs of batteries in 3 days and have not saved even 20 pictures.and dont think of even using the screen.
