Opinion: I have owned 3 Kodak digital cameras: my first, a Cx7300; my second was a cx7430 and the third was a C643 that I purchased for my first trip to Las Vegas in June 2006.
I currently own two Kodak digital cameras: a Z710 (2006) and a Z1275. Each time I have updated for the purpose of more megapixels.
I LOVE taking pictures and I absolutely LOVE this camera. It takes fabulous pictures! Last year in May, I attended the Street of Dreams in Atlanta, GA. I took approximately 520 pictures at this event. They ALL look as if they were taken with a DSLR. At the event, a female realtor asked if I would send her a CD of my pictures----NOT!!!! Why? For copyright purposes, of course. I could not chance seeing my photos in some magazine and not receiving credit or compensation for taking them.
I alternate between the Z710 and the Z1275. I use theZ710 camera when I want "PROFESSIONAL" quality photos and because of the zoom. I still use my Z1275 because of the 12 megs, it's smaller when traveling and it takes GREAT pictures, also. I love Kodak because the cameras are EASY to navigate and the picture quality is great.
Problems: No image stabilitation - although I don't need it; my pictures are NEVER blurred!
The shutter lag is slow.
The LCD is small.
Opinion: It's so cheap on the long zoom camera now. The price of it right now is very reasonable.
The colour of it is also very natural and there is no need to do too much after-edit on the picture.
It's also not big as a long zoom DC and I take it everywhere I travel.
It is very suitable for the DC photo beginner like me to touch and learn the knowladge of photography.
Problems: The image quality is not good enough. It lost a little more the details of the image which is not good for the edition on the computer.
Opinion: I work in retail, and ever since i seen this camera i always wanted it, but never got it. I've owned other cheap cameras, but never really went and did anything with it. The day we sold the display was the day i went over to another store and got the camera. Since then I've been taking this camera everywhere and i still can't get enough of it. It has everything i want in a camera along with the great zoom. It feels like i own an SLR without the cost. The quality is better then anything I've ever owned
Problems: none to report.
Opinion: I just think this camera is the greatest I can imagine. After owning about 10 Olympus cameras since 1975 ( and nothing else) I finally got fed up with the Olympus "customer doesn't matter" policy .
My last Olympus camera's LCD screen faded complety out in sunlight ,and they told me to go buy a screen cover from game boy.Thats when I went shopping for something decent.I travel a fair bit and in general take a lot of photos .I'm no pro thats for sure ,but the difference in cameras is incredible ..My Kodak easyshare Z710 is just so perfect I cant beleive it ..It is shaped to fit in your fist, and the little controls can be reached with your thumb and forefinger with ease while pointing the camera. 2 features I was determined to have were ,AA batteries (not some $65.00 odd ball thing Olympus had) and a peep hole My last one had no peep hole so in sunlight I couldn't take pictures.
I bought a $25.00 one Gig chip and it will now hold around 1000 pictures .A feature I like is the battery saver ,you click menu then setup and scroll to power off and can set it for up to 10 minutes .This means once the camera is turned on you can leave it on for 10 minutes before it shuts off causing the zoom to retract (and using up battery power )
The zoom is great as is the feature that lets you choose your settings like with a SLR . I highly recommend anyone try this camera out ( buy it from walmart or somwhere you can return it if you don't like it )..I am very happy with it. I wonder if all Kodaks are this user pleasing
Problems: The only things I can gripe about is the lens cover has 2 little areas on each side you press to remove the cover ,The camera case I bought sometimes causes these things to compress and the cover comes off .I'm getting used to placing it in the case so this doesnt happen ,but still think it could have been a little less sensitive .
Next the user guide hardly tells you anything .It gets you running and tells you everything you need to know but doesn't show each screen and explain stuff. To find out about leaving the camera on for 10 minutes I e-mailed Kodak and got the answer .Actually I could have explored all the different screens in the menu ,but I really don't like groping around on my own ..I still love this camera..
Opinion: As a retired Wedding Photographer that has lugged cases of equipment around for over 30yrs this little camera is like a breath of fresh air, well enough equiped to be able to use some creative photography at the price this one is hard to beat.
Even though it got some poor reports from certain reviewers regarding picture quality I feel they were tring to send a message to Kodak letting them know they are sick of seeing rehashed models with small sensors crammed with extra pixels, this IMO is unfair, I have had one DX6490 and two DX7590s the picture quality is every bit as good on the Z710.
Problems: Only complaint from me is the flash pops up every time the camera is turned on, other than that its fine.
Opinion: Got this camera for myself, as I wanted something with high specs, but nothing as committed as a DSLR. This camera is perfect: with an amazing 10x optical zoom, and 7.1 megapixels it certain is impressive, however for 10x zoom you really need a tripod. The PASM mode allows you to set shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and something else (I forget).
It features sport mode for movement shots and 18 scenarios, like beach scenes, kids birthday parties, landscapes, closeups (very impressive - not quite macro), etc.
If you don't feel up to getting a DSLR quite yet, and want something you can use either as a point and click or something which you can customise, get this camera!!
Problems: High zoom = need tripod. Picture quality at 100% is slightly rough, but to be expected in a non-DSLR digital camera.
EDIT (6 months later): Lag between photos can be aggravating especially if taking photos of wildlife. Long quite a while to turn on. Not necessarily crucial points for most users, but I'm getting a DSLR, and using this as a backup camera.
Opinion: I purchased this after using my DC210 Plus and my CX6230 for the last three years. I chose this mainly because of the price, the zoom and the lens manufacturer. So, far this has been a good camera. I have taken some good shots. Overall, I am pleased thus far.
Problems: The shutter lag is a little slow for me. Other than that, nothing else bad to report
Opinion: I am basically a canon guy but got this kodak z710 as a gift. I tried it out on my recent trip and it proved to be great. This camera is bit more than point n shoot. one needs to know about the manual controls to take good pictures. The construction is very good and the potrait mode is great. The 7 MP with 10x zoom is real boon. but without IS we would require a tripod while taking pictures at high zoom.
In a nutshell its a gr8 camera but it is not meant for novice users.
Opinion: A superb almost minature like DSLR which fits well in most pockes/bags etc and ease of menu operation with many features. Excellent value for money. Like the Kodak Easyshare system very much for general printing and quality. Nice one to keep with you on walkabouts whether you take pictures or not just in case of that opportunity with the long zoom.
Problems: No image stabilisation (but neither does many DSLRS) and small LCD (but this gives a small camera size for pocket fitting).
