Opinion: I bought my Z981 a few months ago. I'm still learning to exploit its many resources. However, the results I got did not disappoint me. Sure, I knew I was getting a non-professional camera ... So, my assessment is favorable. The Z981 offers interesting results and has many nice features for a machine of this price range. I pointed out 4 stars.
Opinion: The camera has many options and it may put off some people by getting acquainted with it, I know you got used to your old camera and its settings !!!.... I'm still learning about it's full functions and the more time i spent the more I love my Kodak Z ! My most intentions were to use it for panoramas and occasional HDR, well I'm not disappointed at all ! I love the fact that I can charge my batteries and easily shoot over 500 pics with them or record 2gb of videos. I simply could not justify buying new batteries every time I shoot. I also like the fact that it can shoot RAW pics for that deep color manipulation and other options. In my opinion, this camera has paid for itself just after 6 mos of taking photos and even though it is not a Canon or Nikon I still give it a 4.0 stars.
Ps. Actual Aperture spec is F2.8 - F8.0 compared to its original review.
Problems: None, these days the software takes care of it all.
Opinion: very unpredictable in focusing, colour, etc but when working gives lovable results. Noisy too...
Opinion: While this fits your hand like a small DSLR, it is cheap feeling and doesn't perform that quickly in focusing or in burst mode. The colors are okay but not as good as my actual DSLR camera. Even the burst mode is faster on my better camera. Switching settings so that a decent photo comes out takes far too long compared to other Kodaks I've had in the past. This one is going back today and I'll save my money for a better second DSLR camera. Kodak is trying to compete with this but it rates a low grade on my scoring sheet.
Problems: Focusing on closeups was difficult to lock in and often remained fuzzy. Battery and SD card door is hard to open and close. Detachable lens cover is a minus on a point and shoot camera. Burst mode and other modes were time-consuming to set and slow to work anyway.
