Opinion: I've bought this camera years ago, just to own a Leica. Back than, it was cheap for a Leica. Now, I took it out of its bag again and began a second time taking pictures with this camera. If you know, you don't have to use iso 200 or 400 and if you know, you have to use a diphragm like f2 this camera takes the best pictures I've ever saw. Better than actual DSLR's from Canon or Nikon. Great B&W-pictures and the RAW-pictures are much better than the JPEG's. Now I have to save money for a big Leica !!!

Opinion: Bought this camera from ebay mainly on the basis of other user reviews. They are
right!! Great analogue controls, superb lens and film-like IQ. EV takes some adapting
to but not really bad and LCD screen very clear.

Problems: Hard to find some features (eg B&W settings) in manual.

Opinion: Here we are in 2009 and I am posting a review of a camera that has been around
for more than 5 years. Why do I bother? Well, in the blizzard of new cameras that
hit the market every month, with ever-increasing pixel count, 4007 focus points, all-
singing, all-dancing in-camera features, I keep coming back to my Digilux 2 -- I also
have a Nikon D200. Not only does it provide an aesthetically pleasing photograph
taking experience, because of its analogue control features -- shutter, aperture,
zoom and focus -- but because it simply takes photographs of quite remarkable
quality. Colour rendition, image clarity and sharpness, contrast and JPEG output
are all extraordinary, regardless of the camera's age: it can hold its own against just
about any non-DSLR camera on the market today. Build quality is outstanding.
The two-position flash is great: built-in bounce flash! Best of all, however, is the
Summicron lens, f2 and a very useful focal length range, much better than today's
D-Lux 4/Panasonic LX3. There is also, uniquely I believe, a "Superfine" JPEG
quality setting, which I use all the time now. The bottom line is that although this
camera's sensor has "only" 5Mp, it produces images that would do credit to a top-
of-the-line 10Mp camera. Moreover, subject to one caveat (below), it is just a joy
to use. My D200 is my first choice only where I need to shoot super-wide or long
telephoto, but there's a huge penalty to be paid to do that in terms of weight and
bulk. Otherwise, it's the Leica.

Problems: The electronic viewfinder takes getting used to. ISO range is limited, but the f2 lens
makes up for the limited top-end settings.

Opinion: I recently bought the Digilux 2 after having owned an LC-1 for a couple of years. (They are essentially the same camera.) I bought both for the Leica lens, and I have not been disappointed. In fact, I tend to use these cameras more than the others in the arsenal given their small size and light weight (compared to my Fuji S2 Pro for example). The image quality is simply astounding, and that is saying a great deal as I have been a life long Nikon user (since the days of film). The images need very little "tweaking" in photoshop (and only those recommended by Thorsten Overgaard for portraiture). Given the cameras' diminutive size (compared to a DSLR) and thus its' "unobtrusive"appearance (except for the leica name and the Leica "red dot" which gets camera afficianados' heart-beats racing) I get many more candid shots than I might otherwise. Since I have bought both cameras on the used market (one of whose sensors have been replaced) I was able to purchase both for much less than the original Leica price. Eventhough the lens is not interchangable (and thus presents a limitation), I would heartily recommend the camera to anyone, particularly for photography other than wildlife. I love the manual controls; the metering system works extremely well, and I shoot as I would shoot with slide film. I rarely use a hand held meter and meter with the in camera meter, moving in or out with the camera to expose for whatever highlight (or shadow) I deem necessary.

Problems: So far so good. No problems. But I should also add, I take very good care of my equipment and do not submit any of it to harsh conditions without protection (in bag, or with some protective cover in the rain, etc.).

Opinion: If you can get your hands on a Digilux 2, do it.

It seems that suddenly there are a wave of people that have decided they want a camera... not a computer. Granted, I still need rapid fire, big gun DSLRs for work... but my "Sunday driver" is the Digilux 2. It puts the joy back in photography.

If you're someone who wants to shoot in manual mode and would like to relive the days you enjoyed taking pictures, this is your camera. I love it.

Opinion: I got this camera second hand in mint condition with replaced sensor. Also owning a D-
Lux 3, the Digilux 2 feels like a real camera. It gives me the same feeling as using my
Leica CM or CM Zoom. Image quality is superb, lens outstanding. Wish I had this
camera earlier.
Writng speed of Raw is rather slow but not a problem to me.

Problems: None yet
