Opinion: Dlux-4 is a little gem. It is quick and precise. The images are outstanding for a
compact camera. Colors are special and eye catching. High ISO is not bad. It fits in
your pocket and I took on trips and it performed well along side my M8. I used it
often as a reportage tool. I like it a lot.

Problems: The RWL files can only be converted by Capture One software provided.

Opinion: Well done, Leica. This is an excellent companion camera to the M8, and the Ricoh
GR Digital II. I have a GRD II and the D-Lux 4 in a tiny bag and both cameras have
their advantages, and both are discreet.
The write time for the RAW files is quick in the D-Lux 4.
The Ricoh 28mm fixed fl lens is excellent, very little distortion, and fast.
The D-Lux 4 focal length range of the 24~60mm eq lens is just right, sharp and
fast.
I like to use slow ISO and full aperture because the dof is such an advantage with
these small cameras. The image quality is excellent, great color.
The switch on time is fast.
With the $150 rebate in the US, even the price is good.
I have not worked out a way of having a custom setting for the camera to switch
on to a fl of about 50mm. It defaults to the 24mm setting. That would be a nice
feature if possible.
I have also enjoyed the custom settings for "portrait" where it can make a soft focus
image, make grandma happy. Some of the other special settings look amuzing too.

Problems: Capture software works fine for the RAW files, but as usual, as of December 2008,
Apple's APERTURE does not yet support them, too new. I hope they work that out
soon. It took them a while to support the Ricoh after it came out.

Opinion: After several digital cameras, I love this Leica! It is discrete and light. Takes great low light shots. DSLR images are better, but sometimes there is no room for a big camera...This is a great compromise.

Considerably higher future resale value makes Leicas a good buy.

Problems: Leica should have crammed on a feature or two to seperate it from the panasonic equivalent - how about a lower or higher ISO? 3 year warranty is excellent.

Opinion: After a year of shooting with dl3 and learning how to appreciate it, it was an excellent surprise to see how dl4 is even better! I can't see any digital P&S with this size of sensor being any better!
Good job Pan/leica!

Problems: The price of the accessories!
