The M9 is Leica's first 'full-frame' digital rangefinder, enabling the use of most Leica 'M' series lenses at the originally intended field-of-view. The 18MP CCD sensor is fitted with a filter that avoid the M8 and 8.2's need for lens-mounted UV and IR filters. It retains the classic M series look and build quality while promising a no-compromise approach consummate with its not-inconsiderable price-tag. While beautifully engineered and undeniably capable as a photographic tool, the M9 understandably lacks some of the digital sophistication offered by more mass-market products and its sensor isn't a match for the latest CMOS designs in low light. Its lack of anti-aliasing filter enables it to capture astonishing levels of detail at lower ISO settings though.

Opinion: The image quality is amazing. A full frame rangefinder is clearly a technical challenge
but worth it as it gets the best out of the absolutely fantastic range of Leica lenses.
Some of the issues with the M8 have been addressed in this version, but irritatingly for
the price some have not.
Problems: Shutter still too noisy. LCD screen is awful and far too slow. Camera will lock up if you
overload the buffer (taking too many pictures in one burst) and can only be reset by
removing battery. I hate the bottom plate which needs to be removed to access
battery and SD card (too 1930s ish). The selector switch to turn on the camera is
imprecise and easy to accidentally switch - numerous complaints from M8 and should
have been sorted on the M9. Sensor still too noisy - pretty useless above 1000 iso.
Opinion: Returned after 2 days.
Problems: Long exposure problems
Opinion: Found the problem with sensor. After some fighting w/Leica
I got the answer that sensor is not a part of Leica production and
they can repair without warranty on quality.
Problems: At night shots, problems comes..
Opinion: After using 2 month go back for Canon.
This is joke, not for real world. Film cameras
was much better. When compare images with 5D don't
understand why it cost $7000 more.
Problems: poor in hi-ISO, slow, bad sensor, heavy, expensive
