Opinion: I've had this camera for over 1 1/2 years. I use Nikon DSLR as well as several other bridge cameras by Panasonic and Fujifilm. I got it for a good price as Nikon was introducing P100 to replace this model.
I wish I hadn't bought this one. Outside on a sunny day, pictures come out ok, but its performance indoors is dismal. On default program setting, the pictures are blurry and ISO setting above 400 is noisy and useless. You have to coax performance from this thing using manual settings. Overall, disappointing effort from Nikon.

Build quality is good and is surprisingly heavy compared to other bridge cameras. Articulating screen is useful, although its resolution could be better. Video is mediocre and no HD.

Opinion: simply horrible .ALL the disappointed owners need to get together. There seems to be something very very wrong with sensor and I mean that with as much intensity as I can place with words. Of all the cameras I ever tried this was the worst. PLus if you go to ebay you will have noticed Cammedia or a reseller selling reconditioned P90s by the hundreds if not thousands. Were they bad cameras that were fixed and original owners didn't want? This camera is very recent so whats the deal Nikon? Or just bad camera re sold? So now only the buyers now get reconditioned but original owners get shafted ? The colors often give off a seperate WRONG tint. Its easy to get overblown highlites.. The shots have no vitality to them above all else. They don't look like 12 meg 2010 camera. There is noise like all of these cameras..Nikon service won't fix it I will never buy a Nikon now.The P90 was not cheap. I was never more disappoined from a camera then this .I read the few positives here and I simply can't believe them this camera is soo bad.

Problems: Nikon could have done better and whatever they are doing on ebay as reconditioned is very suspect and underminds all previous opinions of Nikon and their desire to be honest and upfront with customer service

Opinion: Needing a small camera to carry with me at all choosing the p90 was an easy choice. Rather than carrying a dslr the research payed off under the extreme conditions of winter in Fairbanks Alaska and riding my bicycle while shooting (yes in the winter) it was a good choice. The intentions were to use it for test shots and after seeing the results it soon became the main camera.
The image quality surpassed my expectations as well as the color reproduction, the ease of operations with gloves on surprising after becomeing used to the location of the controls. The scene functions are pretty dead on other than the monochrome function, which was easy to resolve buy using the copy function in the scene mode.
Operation in sub zero tematures slowed some what but never failed as matter of fact helped buy slowing down the zoom while framing shots. The small view finder seemed like a hinderence at first but paid off in the cold, it didnt frost over while ones breath covered it. Having the screen able to move to frame with is amazing in the cold was surprised how well it responded, frosted over a few times but after it cleared up it was fine.
The sharpness of the lens for a point and shoot is more than one would expect, as well as the metering.
Nikon did well in the design with this camera with the advance amatuer in mind being able to go to the manuel setting makes it an asset to any shooters arsenal.

Problems: Battery life even not in the cold is lacking, buting a back up is a good idea.

Opinion: I am a keen amateur photographer in photography, but this camera has excellent response to all my tests. Be clear that the automatic mode is bad, not the color or even give a proper definition, but by working in other modes, all the shortcomings of the automatic mode removed. I have worked in manual modes and ISO 200 upwards is noisy, but lower ISO pictures are lovely. color as the weaknesses are fully manageable with manual adjustment of automatic or manual white manual modes, in fact, achieve beautiful shades and colors. zoom spectacular. the handling is very simple, although I had a nikon compact old and was very similar, so I knew how to handle it. folding screen is a great idea not only for macros, it is very useful in many situations. Some other considerations: it is very light for its features, is convenient for use, the battery lasts long enough (about a day, taking many photos), and most importantly have the warmth of the colors nikon.
my first impression was bad, because I was just using it, but as I progressed, I managed to take excellent photos. I think opinions should not make hasty with this camera, if one manages to cope, the results are excellent.
I also believe that we must bear in mind that however powerful it may be this camera, it remains a compact and therefore achieves a performance at that level.
is undoubtedly a very good camera to learn enough and after getting a reflex.
personally, I do not think I will have a reflex on much longer, until you learn to use all the manual and the necessary sensitivity to photography, so what I need for my nikon p90, I am more than satisfied.
also is a very good price. another thing limiting the acquisition of a reflex.
This camera work is reviewed and, once understood, is achieving results. do not be hasty opinions.

Problems: automatic modes
autofocus (just a few)

Opinion: Good camera. I can see that some people have some problems with this camera. In my opinion, this is good point and shot camnera. This is not DSLR. You got what you paid.

Problems: It is slow a little bit.

Opinion: I bought this camera same day I bought my Canon SX120 IS and it wasn't even close to what I expected. This camera was terrible because whites were gray and yellow? Images were grainy up close and with the 24x optical zoom. Even on a tripod the optical zoom pics come out grainy. The camera is extremely bulky and I spent way to long trying to figure out the color balance. Ridiculous, because I all I wanted to do was to charge and take a picture. This camera is all manual and I could not understand it. Although it has a 24x optical zoom the images came out grainy and this feature does no justice. I am returning this camera and keeping my Canon SX120 IS

Problems: Hard to understand. Too many features that need to be manually tweaked. Bulky and not worth $400. Then again I am a newbie but I was frustrated with trying to figure it out.

Opinion: This is my honest experience with Nikon P90:

I am an artist (painter) and needed a high mega pixel camera to photograph my paintings for reproduction. I researched for 3 months to make sure which camera I wanted. I came to the conclusion that the Nikon P90 had every single feature I wanted and within the price range I had. I read some bad reviews but I figured it couldn’t be that bad and I would give it a shot. I received this camera for my birthday last week. I have never been so excited.
This would be the best camera ever if not for one thing.... It is absolutely horrible at taking a picture. I read the manual twice and figured every feature out. I am not an idiot and not a pro photographer, but I have educated myself over the past few months studying everything I can on photography and using manual settings on a camera.
Over 2 days experimented with just about every setting and different types of lighting. Most were on a tripod. After taking 500 pictures I could only got 1 of what I consider decent to high quality (and I am not picky either). Every picture was grainy, blurry, or really bad quality. I was shocked. The camera did everything bad that people have written about on here plus some. I couldn’t believe how it could be this bad. This camera seemed to do what it wanted no matter what you set it on. Every setting seemed to do the opposite of what it should do (ISO, shutter speed, Etc...). The worst part is that the auto focus constantly is thinking and never actually focuses. 3 days in a row the camera after 50 or so pics, the focus just stops and kept giving me the red blink. Changing modes and powering off would not make it work. I had to let it rest a few hours then try again. The LCD Screen is so grainy and you can not tell what your pictures will look like until you load them in the computer. I really wanted to make this camera work because I loved it so much. A family member couldn't believe it either and went outside (sunny) to do some test shooting with it. He came back and said, "Take it back".
Even if I was somehow able to make it work to photograph my art under perfect conditions, I was too afraid of how unreliable it would be to take any snap shot on trips to the museum or the zoo. Seriously my IPhone and my old 4MP HP Photosmart takes better snap shots.
I was so upset to take it back to the store, but I did. After returning it I went over to the demo model in the store. Now that I was well versed in using this camera I picked it up and tested it. The one in the store did the same things, so I am sure I did not just get a bad one. I tried it against several models and the difference was amazing. Every camera, even the cheap mini cams took a better snap shot right in the store and focused fast and easy. You can see the difference in the screens too. I am glad I am rid of that hunk of junk. I can't believe Nikon hasn't pulled it off the shelf it is so bad.

If you buy this camera, Please beware that at best it will be very difficult to get the shot! Save your receipt. Good Luck-"

Problems: Bad Auto Focus, Bad Picture Quality

Opinion: I love this camera. I am a grandmother who loves to scrap, and create art from my photos. I am also a nature lover who loves animal and bird photos. I find this camera is perfect for me. It is light and very easy to use. This means I can always have it handy, since it is so easy to carry around and take wonderful pictures of the grandkids. I took it birding, and got beautiful photos I would not have taken with my previous camers. The telephoto range is out of sight. It was quite easy to change the exposure settings to get perfect pictures of white shore birds against dark foliage. Much easier than with my previous camera. The automatic focus was dead on, and because of such a small focus point, I was easily able to focus on the birds even with foilage in front of and behind them. The close up range is unbelievable, I was able to take photos of things almost directly in front of the lens, and because of the great telephot, I could be back several feet from butterflies and still get great closeups. I love this camera.
