Another affordable and very compact all-metal Coolpix from Nikon's 'S' range. The S220 replaces the Coolpix S210, which scored well in our December 08 group test, upping the resolution to 10MP and throwing in a couple of Nikon's latest gadgets (Smile Mode, Blink Detection etc) but otherwise changing little. And that's no bad thing; the S210 was a suprisingly capable ultra slim compact at a bargain price. A far better choice than the S230 (same camera with a 3.0" touch screen that's high on novelty but low on utility).

Opinion: One advice: stay away from it. The first one I had, had severe 'white speckels' in the
images (sorry, but this is the closest I can describe it.) Rapidly changed it for a second
one, with the same phenomenon.
Problems: White speckels on images. I mean: you can't even make photo's with it...
Opinion: Disappointment garanteed!
Image quality is poor: some strangely shaped noise appears indoor, which was called "speckle" by another reviewer. I am wondering where this speckle is coming from. Even outdoor pictures seem to be heavily processed to hide the ugliness of the sensor output. To make things worse, the LCD display is close to not antialiased, and so the speckle is VERY visible even if you do not zoom into the pictures. Yuk.
Autofocus is slow. Low-light performance is dreadful. I have bought quite a number of cameras from Nikon, one of the last ones being an S52, which was great. This one is the ultimate disappointment. It is a paramount example that which cheap hardware, the electronics and image processing cannot repair the terrible image and turn turd into gold.
Stay away from that one, unless you do not care about image quality, and what you want is a compact & nice looking toy that takes, well, ... photos.
Opinion: This camera is a complete POS. Although I only had it for a day, I used it under a variety of conditions, all of which produced sub-par results. I have a Nikon d90, and 300 and can't believe Nikon would actually sell such a horrible camera
Problems: every single picture was out of focus, ridiculous amounts of noise
Opinion: Although the can is neat and small and seems well made, the images though are completely unacceptable in almost every aspect. Soft, grainy, poor colour. Macro does not seem to work. I'll be taking the camera back to get another camera. I hope they will take it back.
