Olympus D-400 Zoom (C900Z)

Opinion: This camera served as a pocket camera beside the C-1400L, and although it has the same pixel count, the D-400ZOOM resolution is better than that of the C-1400L. It is still in use for school work with Sandra's daughter.

The picture quality still competes with newer models of the same resolution (Cassandra keeps e-mailing her photos), and you can use Alkaline batteries without running out in 5 minutes.

The D-400ZOOM is a secondhand bargain if you can get one.

Opinion: I used this camera for 2 years before upgrading to the C-3000. Its a camera that I'll always be very fond of. I took 1000's of pictures in all conditions with very good results.
The plus points 1st: Very easy to use, a great 1st camera for beginners. The portability of the camera is great. Fits into your jacket pocket no probs. I liked the sliding cover which gave great protection to the lens when it was in your pocket alongside coins or keys etc. I didn't use the LCD screen much so it seemed to last ages on rechargeable batteries. The zoom was great for the shots I was taking.
The bad points now: Some pictures had to be sharpened using an editing package. I always had to add red to my pictures and sometimes had to adjust the brightness and contrast slightly. Now I've seen some of the pictures I've taken viewing them on someone elses monitor and they look very different so I'm reluctent to be too hard on this camera. The serial conection is very slow... use a card reader. Flash is fair but nothing to write home about. The little rectangular buttons on the back of the camera are a bit fidgetty.
On the whole a great camera to learn with. I passed it onto my brother who is just learning digital photography and he loves it. I'll miss this little beauty.

Opinion: This is my first digital camera and I have had it since very early 1998. Unfortunately it has had to go awawy for a repair because I accidentally thumped it against a door frame!

This is a suoerb camera for a beginner in digital photography - compact, simple to use (but you MUST read the manual to get the best out of it) and produces pictures that are perfectly adequate for home/web use. I am very fond of mine and use it constantly as my job takes me to some far flung places.

Opinion: THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA FOR BEGINNERS. I BOUGHT IT WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE WAY IT OPERATES . I FIND IT VERY FREINDLY AS LONG AS YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST.IT CAME WITH AN 8MEG CARD AND I UPGRADED TO A 32MEG CARD. HAD A PROBLEM TO FING THE UPGRADE SOFTWARE FOR THE SMARTMEDIA ADAPTER . WHEN I FINALLY FOUND THE SOFTWARE I NEVER LOOKED BACK .

Opinion: got this for 375 on ebay a couple of years ago, also my first camera .great first camera still in use, better then all comparable models period..

Opinion: The D400Z was my first Digital camera. It has served me very well for the last 3 years. Picture quality is very good and it doesn't take up much room, allowing you to carry it wherever you go. The camera is still in use although I mainly use my C3020 now.

Opinion: I have owned this camera for about 2 years and have had mixed feelings regarding the performance. In my opinion, image color tends to be lacking and just doesn't seem too vibrant. Sharpness was another area where I felt it fell a little short of the usual "Olympus" quality. The terrible pause that you get when depressing the shutter release is frustrating and if you don't adjust your picture taking habbits to compensate, you can miss the shot all together. Turning the camera off is accomplished by sliding the stiff lens cover directly into the side of the lens body, yikes!
However, on the good-side, the camera is wonderfully small, fits in your pocket and is totally protected with the front cover in the closed position. It has some pretty advanced features including spot metering but I feel it is aimed at the casual "shooter" who doesn't have too many demands of his/her digital camera. At the time I paid $650 for it and unfortunately, I have just droped it onto a concrete floor and killed it!
Would I buy this camera again? Nope, but I will probably still buy an Olympus...

Opinion: This camera takes great pictures. It was an upgrade to my old Agfa ePhoto307. It's very portable and runs very well with NiMH batteries, which is what I've been using with it since I got it. I've had it for over a year now, getting close to two years.

Opinion: I have had this camera for over a year now and at the time I bought it, it was the best in it's class and still performs very well. I even took some wedding pics that turned out better than the ones taken by the professional photographer that was hired. Very nice for a 1.3 megapixel camera. I now want to try the Olympus C-3040 as my replacement for this super little camera. If you can find one now, they are likely cheap and worth every penny.
