12.3 megapixels | 2.7" screen | Four Thirds sensor

New model from Olympus offers high end features in an incredibly compact body that addresses many of the shortcomings of the E-520, with a bigger, better viewfinder and a new 7-point autofocus system. Even by Olympus's standards of entry-level generosity, it's not short on toys - including an articulated screen to make full use of its live view system, which itself is one of the better implementations of this feature. It's also got 'Art' modes and the ability to shoot in four different aspect ratios - adapted from the features of the high end E-30. There's also in-body Image Stabilization and a level of configurability that is unparalleled in this class. In fact it's astonishing how much Olympus has crammed into its small dimensions - it's nearer to the size of the E-420 than the E-520 series.

Opinion: I had a chance to test an €-620 from my colleague. I was using my lenses 12-60/50-200/50.

The image quality produced throught the whole band from ISO 100 to ISO1600 is excellent. Noise is well controlled. ISO 3200 is not that good. Depeding on the situation and the goal of the picture you are taking, ISO 3200 might be good enought or not.

Handling with the 12-60 is very good. The 50-200SWD is really at limit. The missing full grip of the E520 makes it difficult to hold steady. But in general the tiny grip is good.

Overall, this is the cam i like

- Inbuilt IS
- Features of an E-30
- Size and Weight of a compact cam
- Image Quality of an E-30
- Available Battery Grip
- Dive Case

This would have been the perfect replacement for my €-520, if i would not have an €-30 now ;-)

From me -> Highly recommended

Problems: - In-Built flash casts shadow on image from the lenses
- Battery life (100 Fotos LV, 85 Fotos int. Flash, 320 Fotos OVF) is far from what Nikon reaches.

Opinion: Lots of improvements over the lovely E520 to the point that raise your satisfaction to the highest level.
I upgraded from E520 to E620 without any regrets.
Amazing controls even with the specific lens fine focusing adjustment and exposure default setting.
The benefits of camera size reduction and articulated screen are greatly appreciated.
Art Filters and Double Exposure function are valuable bonus from Olympus.

Problems: Small Grip, low battery life, still small viewfinder, High-ISO noise; are all forgivable

Opinion: I upgraded from my Olympus C-5500 to my first DSLR, the Olympus D-620. Overall I give the camera a 4.0 to 4.5. I am pleased with the camera. I found all the controls easy to learn and adjust within just a few days of having the camera. The overall size of the camera seems perfect, I have no complaints about the grip size. I've already gotten many great photos as well as many compliments on the camera from other DSLR users.

My only complaints so far are noticeable noise at 800 ISO and above even with noise reduction turned on standard (which I was expecting), and slow/inability to auto focus in low light/low contrast situations (again, not really that big of a surprise). However, with this being my first DSLR I couldn't be happier, and would not hesitate to recommend it to any one looking for a full featured entry level DSLR.

Problems: Once the flash timing was off, even in auto mode subjects would be way under exposed. Turning off the camera and back on corrected this problem.

Another time the lens would not auto focus. I reseated the lens and this corrected that problem.

Opinion: The E-620 is a great choice for a four-thirds body that is light-weight, but packed with features--live-view, dust-reduction, tilt-screen, shadow-adjustment, art filters, etc. It has nearly the same specs as the larger E-30, but at a lower price. I've been using the E-620 for about one six months and remain very satisfied.

I also own the E-30, which is a great body, when I don't need to travel light. The quality of images from both camera bodies seems identical.

I'd recommend the Zuiko 14-54 II SWD over the 14-42 kit zoom, and the Zuiko 9-18 mm superwide zoom for nature and archetural shooting, as well as the 50 mm for portrait and macro. I have also tried the 620 body with the Leica/Panasonic 14-150, which provides an excellent, but pricey, all purpose zoom. Most results seem sharper than with the Zuiko 18-180, and the 14-150 is modestly faster in the telepphoto range.

If you are buying your first E series camera, you can't do better for the price and features than the E620. The battery is smaller than those in the E510, E520, E3, or E30, but you can always carry a spare.

Problems: None
