Opinion: Ordered from Japan, this has turned out to be an excellent, small, take-anywhere camera. Image quality is very good for 2mp and such a long lens, with high resolution and little of the fringing problems associated with most big zooms. The stabilization is wonderful, lets you shoot at slow speeds. Excellent white balance system, very good colors with rich, textural images (a vast improvement over earlier Lumix cameras). Though bought in Japan, everything on the camera is available in English (as long as you don't need the software). Good battery, the auto mode is easy for anyone to use.

Problems: Very limited controls, I'd like to see at least an aperture priority and some sharpening control. Some color clipping, esp reds, at default exposure levels (have to underexpose to avoid this). No way to turn off both LCD or EVF monitors while camera is on, LCD stays on when connected to computer, this can drain the battery. Autobracketing feature is buggy. Flash needs to be stronger, and no adjustment possible. Need to stick with ISO50 whenever possible to avoid noisy images, which get bad at ISO200 or 400. But I LOVE the camera! it really grows on you.

Opinion: 2.0 mega pixel camera with an excellent 12 optical zoom. Image quality is so amazing and the colors that it spalshes on the ccd are undefineable. Image Stabilizer mode comes very handy and works really well.

Leica Vario-Elmarit lens was made especailly for digital camera. So you might think it's something not like the original Leica. Well, I havent even seen the originals but these lens won't definately let you down.

Problems: Body is made of plastic so it feels a bit weak.
There is no A/S/M mode.
The internal flash is rubbish. You have to be in 1meter tange to use the flash.

Opinion: I am impressed with the ease of use with this new Panasonic camera. I am a menu coniseur , I like cell phones and VCRs that are easy to program and are well thought out and this camera is hands down the best I have ever used. I have borrowed newer model , Cannon, Nikkon, and Fuji cameras and they all have poor to OK menus, this camera is easy to use but in no way stripped of features.
The optics are excelent, it has a great zoom and shoots well in low light because of the huge Leica lens.

Problems: 2.0 Mega pixels is too low! I thought the great optics would make up for the low mega pixel rating but that is not the case. The colors are great unlike some of those other cameras that make the subjects of your photos look pale or unhealthy, but there is not enough detail in many shots. I feel like I should be printing my shots smaller than 4x6. I love the camera I just wish it was 3 + mega pixles.
