Opinion: This is my dreaming Camera. Waiting for her price drop.
Opinion: The camera is just perfict. With a Leica lens designed for it and LCD of 2". So easy to work with, every body should have one.
Opinion: Finally, Panasonic released the 4 megapixel version of this camera
that I was waiting for. Although body size is similar to the FZ1 &
2, this is actually a complete redesign. The lens diameter is much
larger, presumably to light the larger CCD. As a result, the camera
has lost its 'mini-SLR' look, but it is still much lighter than a
'proper' SLR. Actually handles and balances better with the
provided cylindrical lens-hood in place - this gives you a solid left
hand-hold. Excellent lens and generally clear, well-laid out
controls. Image stabilisation works as advertized - I've taken
decently sharp images at 12x zoom as slow as 1/15 sec. Practically
instant shutter response. Good manual controllability, including of
focus, though switching among A, S and M exposure modes is
awkward. Large LCD good for reviewing shots. I am seeing
excellent battery life so far. Nice choice if
you want a camera with powerful telephoto lens capability, but
don't want the weight, expense and complication of an
interchangeable lens SLR. Bought in Tokyo the day it was released
for 69,000 yen - with 128MB SD card and 5% sales tax, total was
just on 80,000 yen.
Problems: I bought the silver body model - glare off camera back
occasionally distracting when using viewfinder (which doesn't
have a soft eye-cup). One stuck pixel on LCD, but not usually
obvious when in use. Takes about 6 seconds to power back up
and refocus after power-save activates (ie. doesn't just 'sleep' the
electronics, but also 'parks' the lens).
Opinion: Nothing but excellence!
