Opinion: Excellent pocket camera for daily snapshots. With a camera this size, you can always
have it with you. if used outdoor, excellent image quality, indoor quality is mediocre
at best, even with flash.
Opinion: I purchased this camera on vacation as a reasonably priced point and shoot. The image quality, especially during evening, night shots is very poor. Many times, it won't focus in low light at all, even when the night mode is on! Not having an eye viewfinder also makes it very difficult to use in a sun glare situation. You are pretty much shooting blind, as you can't see for the glare on the screen.
The back viewing panel went out about a month after I purchased it and the manufacturer claimed that it was due to pressure on the unit. This was nonsense. The camera had been well cared for and this was not even a possiblity, but they would not cover the $100.00 repair under warranty.
Overall, the only time this camera is useful is in daylight conditions, shooting into the sun....or in other words, Save your money!
Problems: Back screen went out and cost $100.00 to repair after a month of use. They would not cover it under warranty.
Low light and night pictures are poor or no quality.
No eye viewfinder makes sun glare situations impossible to gauge.
Opinion: I purchased S6 about 3 three months ago, S6 has a very solid body and comfortable to hold in hand, and I like the 2.5" LCD very much, it is very bright and clear to view.
Problems: Below are some problems:-
01) Short Battery life
02) Very poor image quality.
03) Bad efficiency of Auto ISO. (In low light condition
user must set the ISO manually, this has happened to
my previous DC Pentax 33L too)
04) 15cm for macro, too far!
05) Poor movie quality, very noisy.
06) Dust very easy to get into the CCD(Dust stuck on the
CCD after 1 week of purchased, luckily the service are
very efficiency, I got it back on the second day)
Opinion: Tested the Optio S6. Great in it's compactiblity, and simple to use interface. I would even give kudos some of it's extra "after shot" effects. But I expected a little more out of this camera. I was looking for a simple point and shoot camera, that was ultra compact. Wasn't really even concerned about amazing quality pictures. But this camera was a little disappointing in ways of that. My Canon A520 4MP, takes better quality pics.
The Optio S6 has poor image quality in low light situation, a quarter my pics where out of focus. and half of the ones that weren't out of focus were pretty dark (yes the flash went off). Outside pics are hit and a miss. Sometimes great, sometimes not so great (even outside some pics were dark). And the shot to shot speed is pretty slow. From focusing to taking the shot is about 3 sec. Pretty slow by digital camera standards.
At the end of the day, even the long Battery life (took pics all night and sitll had some power left over), the fact that it's so compact you almost forget you have it, as well as the large 2.5" screen, and all metal chassis wasn't enough to make me want to hold on to this little (almost) jem.
I'm returning this camera, and will try out the Canon SD450. Not as compact (but very close), and apparently takes much better shots. And it's within the same price range. Goes to show you, more megapixels isn't always better.
Problems: Poor pics in low light
Flash inadequate illumination
Slow shot to shot (when focusing, long lags between shots)
Video doesn't work well with a Mac (no volume).
Quite a bit of noise in video.
Opinion: I bought the camera because I own a Pentax Optio S (3.2 mp). The 3.2 has a very small LED--so small you cannot make out details. So when I saw the screen size of the S6 I was delighted. The controls are larger and easier to use, and it seems to ramp up much more quickly.
Problems: The key problem with this camera is that the viewing screen. Although large, it totally fades out in moderately bright light. I took the camera on 2 trips to Whistler and was unable to use it because I could not see the image. The 3.2 has a range/view finder; the S6 does not.
I am returning the camera to Costco because of the fatal flaw.
Opinion: I used this camera extensively for a week. This was my 9th digital camera … which I bought mainly for it’s small size. I wound up returning it because of poor image quality. Although it was a no brainer to use … the auto focus just didn’t cut it IMO. Unless the focus was dead on, the pictures were horrible. Even the best photos were nowhere near as sharp as my Nikon’s or Canon’s. I was kind of disappointed because I really wanted to like this camera. I kept looking here and elsewhere for full blown reviews before I pulled the trigger, but I finally got tired of waiting and grabbed it at Costco when I saw it there. Just as well that it was returned … because I would have been pretty annoyed now that Pentax has announced new models anyway.
Problems: Poor quality pictures.
Opinion: Great construction and features with a huge LCD. Price was average but worth it.
Problems: -Freezes up
-Blury pictures
-Long startup and cycling between shots
Opinion: Well constructed - impressive features considering the compacxtness of this camera. The main benefit apart from it's size is it's ease of use. Especially if you usually need glasses to read - the large screen & way the menus are oportrayed are excellent. Only slight downfall is the slight delay in the time it takes to focus & prepare to take photo. Very happy with it's features & overall design.
Opinion: I have chosen this camera for its design only. It is very compact and lightweight. Compared to my previous Fujifilm 6800 it has much bigger display and ability to shoot with IR remote control. I suppose it may be useful for travelers and amateurs who want to have camera everywhere. On the other hand do not expect from Optio S6 good results...
Problems: The main problems are usual as for other cameras of the same class but I emphasize the following:
1. images are out of focus; using tripod or manual focus helps some;
2. very noisy; noise may be noticed even in bright images;
3. when flash is powering-up camera turns-off sometimes;
4. battery capacity is enough for apprx. 50 shots;
5. charger is not suitable for local powering of camera, instead you have to buy separate AC adapter;
6. if you intend to by this camera prepare yourself for some image processing with computer otherwise images will be poor quality
Overall Pentax S6 is cheap camera with poor quality for begginers.
