10.0 megapixels | 3" screen | 28 – 300 mm (10.7×)

The Ricoh CX3 is the third in a line of CX compacts that goes back to the CX1, released in early 2009. The CX3 doesn't represent a huge leap forward compared to its predecessors, but it does pack a new, more versatile lens, which covers the equivalent of 28-300mm. Other notable features include Ricoh's dual shot 'DR' high dynamic range mode, and a very high resolution 920,000 dot LCD screen, which is still unusual for a compact camera. In most respects, the CX3 is a pleasure to use.

Unfortunately, where the CX3 falls down is its image quality, which is rather sub-par at all ISO settings. At a pixel level the CX3's output is muddy at all ISO settings, and especially unpleasant towards the high end of the ISO scale. The CX3 is the only camera whose output in some situations actually looks poor even on the rear LCD screen. Overall, the CX3 is a really enjoyable camera to use, and ergonomically, it is one of the best on the market, but although it is perfectly capable of turning out excellent postcard-sized prints, its image quality doesn't stand up to critical scrutiny.

Opinion: At first sceptic as competotors at same pricelevel have somewhat better spec on paper, however, once you hold the CX3 and take some pics, the cam impresses by the ease of use and intuitive settings. All pics you shoot are prolike quality by just point and shoot. amazing, i don't know anything about composing pics or so, but already made fantastic macro's, mini's, protraits, hi B/W, i dare to recommend this to anybody, btw i was a Sony owner...

Problems: Why don't i score 5/5 all times;

features; i miss 1 function; that is crating a bigger DOf for partraits (manual aperture, but still than, several other do have this and the DOf created is rubbish)

Image Q; i like to zoom in 16x, at 16x finest details tend to blurr)(like human hair)

Value for money; no accessories are in the box ;SD card, bag..

What does a CX4 needs to have extra; scene mode for passportpictures, battery loading via usb(when hooked up to pc). DOF function

Opinion: Ricoh cameras are well known for their fantastic feature set and UI and this one
is no exception. The camera is a joy to use and offers a fantastic degree of
control for anyone who is interested in photography.
Don't just go and get a Canon or Nikon p&s camera without trying one of these
out. Don't listen to the awful drivel that DPreview printed in the group test about
this camera. It really stands head and shoulders above all of the others. Don't
take my word for it, find one and try it out for yourself and you'll be glad that you
did. A seriously good compact and one that deserves FAR more attention than it
currently gets.

Problems: None whatsoever.

Opinion: Only had it a week so maybe a bit enthusiastic,
but this camera is feature rich.
Glad i didn't heed the dire DPreview on
this machine, maybe it was done by an World Cup
referee.

Problems: None so far.

Opinion: Not had this long but very impressed with its images - unlike
dpreviewers! Colour is nicely restrained and images sharp at
max telephoto. Usual fantastic Ricoh customisability and fits
neatly into crumpler bag in pocket.
So far just great as a travel cam.

Problems: Menus very dense - have owned A GRD3 so I know what I'm
getting into but newcomers might find it a bit imtimidating.
