The Ricoh GR Digital II succeeds the GR Digital and carries over the well-received 28mm equiv. lens from its predecessor, matching it to a new 10 megapixel sensor and new GR Engine II image processing system. For those of us with one leg longer than the other there is a new electronic leveling system and the option to shoot TLR-style square images. Performance is said to be improved with a larger buffer memory and halved RAW file-write time with the option of continuous shooting. Battery life is also said to have come on leaps and bounds with up to 370 shots now possible on a charge - the original gave up after 250.

Opinion: Great compact with a fantastic prime lens. I was concerned with the noise levels issues which I've read about in several articles and reviews, but I'm actually quite pleased with the output. The BW images are clean and tack sharp. The color renditions are also very good. The 28mm lens is ideal for how I photograph and haven't missed not having optical zoom features. The built quality is solid and the controls are very intuitive and easy to use.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this camera and use it daily. I also have a Leica D-Lux-4 and V-Lux-1 and while I enjoy using them, I usually grab for my Ricoh GR-II first.
Opinion: I received my new GRD2 yesterday and the first moments were a very positive. Not a previous Ricoh owner but have followed its development news and waited for this release. The Raw write speed seems @ 2-2.5secs on an extreme 4gig card.
This is a camera meant to be used by a person with atleast an average understanding of photographic concepts. It is feature rich and if you were to use it as a P&S, the options really force you to reconsider a second frame with different settings...and hence an exploration of its capabilities (and yours)
ill let the boys here work out the specs but just wanted to add my thumbs-up for this V.2.
Problems: too early to tell.
but out of the box, wish the flash is a bit more snug to the body in its closed setting..flimsy hinge.
Opinion: Received mine two days ago and so far it seems to be just the little camera I've
always wanted. The GR Digital II is not an M4, it is a standout and a reminder, the
more things change the more they stay the same, quality gear and the craft of
photography.
- 4.0 Ease of use is hidden in the details.... Should improve as the user learns and
improves. Excellent p&s but GRII deserves more demanding work.
- 4.5 Value for money would be higher but my $s are shrinking.
Problems: No full review by dpreview.
Opinion: Don't buy this if you want a camera for all occassions. This camera has limited scope,
but in that scope it excels brilliantly.
Gorgeous RAW, cracking lense, great battery life, optional optical viewfinder is a
delight, noise translates wonderfully into black & white.

Problems: Expensive. But worth it.
