Opinion: I traded in my 1-month old Canon G3 last week for a Sanyo MZ3
(with some money back of course). It was a very satisfactory and
pleasing move to me in fact, and in most shooting situations I have
found this MZ3 performing equally well, if not better, than G3.

Probably I was too disappointed (frustrated should be more correct)
by the G3. Boys, it depreciated by US$ 200 in 4 weeks ! But one
thing I would like to tell you honestly is that the moment I got rid of
the G3 I really felt glad with a sigh.

I know, gentlemen, G3 is 4 mega while MZ3 is 2 mega can't be
compared. But believe me or not, the operation of MZ3 was
smoothier and faster than the Canon G3 : Faster start-up than G3,
more-assertive focusing than G3, even feel a little more solid than the
G3. With easy and logical menu and buttons, stylish metal front and
back casing (My G3 had had a scrath on its silver paint the day I sold it
), this camera could be at higher price if the brandplate were altered
to any major camera brand. Not to mention its unlimtied movie
recording with sounds !!!! (Hey hey, its movie quality could easily beat
whichever brand of whichever price indeed!!!!!!!!!! )

Image quality was a little flat right out from the camera. But with very
little tweaking in photoshop, I could easily get results as good as those
from the G3 to print on one-hour 3R photo papers at least.

This is a camera that I , my wife, and even our kids, would like to use
and to show to friends. Most important is, it was only 1/3 the price of
G3. Some would say that the movie fucntion is not a must to a
digicam. I used to think the same but Sanyo has somewhat changed
my mind : It could be true that many of us would have owned a DV,
but why the hazzle of bringing a DV if your pocket DC does majority
of the tricks ? Quality ? Not many of our DVs are 3 CCD anyway.

Oh yes, one more thing : Sanyo is a small brand in Japan, probably
it hasn't moved its manufacturing lines to Malaysia or Korea or China
yet. MZ3 was made in Japan, while MANY other more famous and
more expensive brands were "Parts made in Japn".

Problems: The only complaint I could have on this small wonder is that it doesn't
zoom while recording movie...(Am I correct ?) , and has no remote
control.

Opinion: This camera is King of movie-recording digicams. This camera supports 5-min 320*240*30 clip (about same quality as analog camcorder. I used this camera mainly for video recordign!!) and believe me, 160*120*30 clip of sanyo digicams are much better than 320*240*15 clips from canon, nikon, etc. And this camera supports 10 shots per sec at 1600*1200!! (better than 100rs)
And mz series supports full manual exposure and a lot of other goodies. Now I upgraded to mz3. (ixy300 size, stainless body, 640*480*30 limitless video!!)
If you can get one around GO GET IT!

Problems: severe hot pixel and dark area noise due to progressive CCD.

Opinion: Need english manual, card reader

Problems: Need an english manual download. Need suggestions for uploading picture files to Dell Laptop w/USB. Proprietary software in Japanese rendering it useless. Which card reader is best for uploading files to laptop?

Opinion: I purchased this camera 'like new' for about USD250 while visting earth. I already had an AZ1 so I knew something about this camera in general. Some of the negative comments may be factual but does anyone (on any planet) make a camera that is 'perfect' for everyone everywhere? I wanted a camera that was small enough that I could carry it in my pocket, used AA batteries, supported microdrives, allowed movie clips, had a zoom lens, was relatively inexpensive, and somewhat easy to operate!!! This camera (and the AZ1/MZ2 are about the only cameras that do all of the above. Flaws, yes it has some but I'm not perfect either so we get along well together. Oh yes, it also works well on my home planet where the atmosphere is quite different :) I am looking for a manual for this camera printed in *@*+!($# but an English version manual would do. I also hope to locate an MZ2 soon...before I leave this planet...to...go back. These cameras are also not sold on my home planet. Those of you who are perfect and need a perfect camera...keep looking and some day... in a galaxy far far away, you might find the camera of your dreams...I did.

Opinion: Very easy to use Camera, Great features and image quality.

Problems: I Think that the camera should of come with a carry bag. I dont like the batteries, I think that it would of been better if it was a little batterie pack.

Opinion: Design Flaw, strap attachment. After reading the posted report of the strap pin breaking away from the plastic body, I checked mine closely and noticed that both sides of the plastic have cracks in them. !!! Don't support your camera from the strap !!

Problems: Danger ! don't use the strap !
