The DP1 uses the same Foveon X3 sensor as Sigma's SD14 DSLR and that makes it the first compact camera ever to be made with an SLR-sized sensor (it's around the same size as the Four-Thirds format). But it's not only the sensor that differentiates the new Sigma from the scores of compact cameras on the market today. With its no-nonsense feature set and 28mm (35mm equiv.) prime lens the DP1 is a million miles away from the superzooms, smile modes and face detection functions that are nowadays standard on so many compact digital cameras. Image quality is amazing for a compact, and if you can live with the slow performance, limited feature set and idiosynchratic operation it's the nearest thing yet to a pocketable SLR alternative. Opinion: I fail to see how this previous gentleman was able to rate the DP1 prior to its release!
Opinion: A superb camera, the BEST IQ of any P&S on the market full stop.
IQ should be rated as 6/7 not just 5!
Hope the DP2 has a 7x optical zoom.
Cheaper would have been nicem but i suppose "you get what you pay for"
Cheers and God Bless,
M/P
Problems: Nil, other than the price!
Opinion: Dpreview needs to stop these ratings (including this one) for cameras that nobody has tried.
They distort the real evaluations from those who actually WILL own the camera and post honest opinions.
Problems: NOBODY has one yet. It has not been released..yet people have posted ratings here!!!!!!
Opinion: I agree. You shouldn't be permitted to post here unless you are maybe testing a beta version of this camer for say a magazine or website. Obviously, there are prototypes out there; how else would even DPreview have sample pics from this model.
I've posted 3's across the board; an effort not to mess up future rating of this product.
