Opinion: In the hands of a skilled photographer, the SD14 produces spectacular high
resolution images. I use the SD9, SD10 and now the SD14 along with some really
spectacular Sigma EX pro line lenses exclusively for my professional work. This
camera is a significant technological development in the world of DSLRs today. It
raises the bar for what can be achieved in Image quality with a Digital camera. The
SD14 is a must have for any photographer shooting landscapes or macro
photography or studio photography. It performs supprisingly well in low light as
well and the new flash is a very welcomed addition alongside its new in
camera .jpeg processing capabilities. Still using it for my pro work as of June,
2009 and the SD14 still amazes me with its image quality.

Problems: Firmware upgrade problem. Firmware had to be reloaded. My fourth body from Sigma
has lockup issues. Solved this problem by turning off LCD preview. Surprisingly, the
slower CF cards work better than the faster ones with this camera.

Opinion: I have used the SD9 since first introduced - very happy to exhibit work from that next to any from 6x9 and 5x4 cameras using film. This new model fits neatly into hand and (I always use manually) is very easy to use. Not a huge step up from the SD9/SD10 but useful nonetheless and a welcome one. The image quality is the prime bonus as imho, the Foveon gives the nearest quality to film.

Opinion: The SD14 is my second DSLR (first being SD9) and third digital still camera. My current use is personal enjoyment along with considerable pro-bono work in the community.

I've shot film for over 30 years including considerable SLR experience and frankly avoided a lot of technological gimmicks, so I consider the SD14 to be very adequate with regard to features. It can produce excellent results with reasonable care - particularly with attention to focus, exposure, and quality of glass. While I would not recommend it as a P&S, it can cover many situations in Program mode with Autofocus and Auto WB very nicely.

With serious attention to technique (i.e., read and follow the manual and get experienced user input on the Sigma forum), knowing the camera's best qualities and its few peculiarities, it can produce stunning results. I admittedly don't use the .jpeg option and will defer to others for opinons on that.

While some who use all the helpful bells and whistles on "full featured" DSLRs may miss a few on the SD14, it has the virtue of being able to master the essentials without endlessly scrolling through menus and flipping through the manual for most shooting.

It is an instrument for serious photographers, professional or amateur. It's also a hefty investment, so one should research, browse online galleries, etc., before buying. An excellent camera for those interested in excellent IQ and willing to do some post processing - but admittedly not what "everyone" may expect or prefer, depending upon their needs and shooting style.

Problems: None.
