Opinion: Its an outstanding camera, i've even seen.
Panorama features real experience and 10fps gives good effectiveness.
Constructive design and great performance delivered
Problems: No as such
Opinion: After 6-months the camera is almost perfect--love the build quality, feature to include great video and hand held twilight!
The EVF is too small for realistic use--I have cataracts..Image quality far surpasses my Sony P-200 and is better than my film SLR using 400asa film..I photograph wildlife and the 560mm zoom is almost perfect!
Problems: no problems were encountered with the exception of a too small EVF for my ageing eyes
Opinion: I bought the HX1 just few days ago. I have also a DSC-H9.
The HX1 has almost the same body of H9 but include some advanced functions. Of course, we can't compare HX1 with other advanced DSLR cameras.
Yes, 9 MP could be not enough but, image quality comparing the H9 (8MP) is superior. better colors, better image options, functions, and for shooting, the HX1 is faster.
Zoom could be greater but 20x is good. The steady image mechanism is awesom. You can take a pic at 20X without problem. No shaking pics.
I thank for the new battery size which offer almost 400mins in operation, though it takes almost 4 hours for full charge.. buy another battery if you intent to shoot many hours.
It would be nice HX1 could work with other kind of memories other than MS Duo.
Panoramic pictures are cool think and the option to take a 10fps burst pics. very quick, for a non-DSLR.
G Lens in HX1 is better than Carl Zeiss in H9 due the wide opening, which provides a somewhat broader view and is quieter.
The price I think is good, but look for the best internet offerings. Do not buy it in a Mall Shop.
I was thinking on buy a DSLR, but, HX1 has many good functions on a small body with a very good results; and it is cheaper.
For the enthusiastic amateur I think the HX1 is a very good option for the price.
Problems: Well, after using it for few days I noticed that it can't use tele or wide option lenses. It doesn't include the convertor neither has tele-wide option lens available for this model.
I can use the DSC-H9 convertor and lens I had because the ring is the same 74mm, but it won't work with full zomm because the lens is longer.
The camera es a little bit slower than H9, to start, to stop and for accessing menus.
The manual says that HD movies can't be written if the memory wasn't formated by the same camera.
The new option for night pictures is great, but you only can take good pictures if you are using a tripod and are shooting a non-moving image. Otherwise, many distortions such as blurring and spots may appear
I think HX1 is the evolving of H9, because they are almost identical on the exterior. The look and feel is the same, some buttons was moved from here to there but almost the same.
I wish that Sony included a better sensor maybe 12 or 14MP at least, and the zoom could be 25x minimum.
Maybe, the body could be less plastic and more aluminum or metal
Opinion: Sony's impressive HX1 superzoom camera features a 20x Sony "G" wide angle
zoom lens (28mm-560mm),optical SteadyShot (Sony's form of optical image
stabilisation, a 9MP Exmor CMOS sensor and a cool sweep panorama mode plus
manual controls,a large 3.0" tilting LCD and a EVF plus HD movie recording
(1080P).
It uses a lithium battery pack (NP-FH50) instead of AA batteries.
The sweep panorama feature is very easy to use and -you hold the shutter button
and pan the camera around and the HX1 automatically stitches in camera-you can
also use this mode for a pan up/down type of panorama-it's unique and impressive
at the same time .
The intelligent auto mode is great when you want to take pictures with minimal
guesswork-it'll detect what kind of scene you'd like to capture and adjusts various
settings for optimum image quality .
Another scene mode worth a mention s the handheld twilight mode which is good
for taking photos in low light. This mode works brilliantly for me and produces
nice and clear low light photos.
Various burst modes are available-including a 10fps burst mode that can capture 10
images at thay speed-it's very quick. Exposure bracketing is on offer to-including
color and WB bracketing plus the usual exposure setting.
HD movie recording can be done in 1080P-there are other settings too and when
viewed on a HDMI equipped Bravia, video quality is phenomenal .
And the image quality is extrenely good.
Opinion: I have Sony DSC-HX1
it is the best camera in this range
If you buy this camera you don't need a SLR camera
Problems: It dosen't have any problems.
Opinion: A little disappointing. Features and size do not make the final image quality
Problems: Noise!
Opinion: I bought this camera as an upgrade to my Panasonic FZ18 (which I loved). I got it mainly for the higher zoom as well as the panoramic sweep feature which is pretty cool. I also like the movie mode as well as the flipable screen.
I would say in normal conditions/lighting the pictures taken by this camera turn out great.
That said, I was still disappointed. The camera tends to be on the slow end and when you shoot in continuous mode it takes FOREVER for the pictures to actually process, so you lose the time in between while you're waiting for the upload.
Under varied/low lighting, the pictures have this really grainy look to them. It's just not something I would expect from a camera from Sony which offers so many great features. Overall, not worth the disappointment.
Problems: The cap comes off very easily and it's rather annoying.
Also, I find that the camera itself is very slow, especially in continuous shooting mode.
Pictures have a really "grainy" look to them.
Opinion: user-friendly. good Image quality in max zoom. super anti-shake. excelllent camera in its class.
Problems: when shooting video in quiet scene the lens zooming motor nois is recorded too.
Manual Focus is not something to write home about.
Opinion: Was using mostly SLR, so thought will go for a no frills auto one but was not so satisfied after buying HX1.
LIKE:
-Good built, comfortable grip
-Lots of feature, specially like the panaromic mode

-Great zooming capability
DISLIKE:
-Image quality not as good as it claims
-Focusing problem at macro level
-Very slow recyling of flash
-Image not very good at low light condition
Problems: -Flash not firing at low light even after poping out
-Not focusing at macro several times
-Battery drains out fast at low temp(05-10 deg C)
