Opinion: Got this camera at the very beginning from direct stock from Japan. It was really a revolutionary design, it has been the setting foundation for me to trust Sony compacts.

Image quality back in the days was legendary, some people suspect it was SLR quality photos. The ease of options meant that this camera was very flexible in all sorts of situations. Image quality once again, just couldnt ask for anything better, keep in mind this was back in Decemeber 03.

Ruggered construction, there wasnt really much flaw that I can complain about this camera, in fact having the Sony T1 and the much newer T200, the T1 feels more solid.

The camera died on me with well over 20,000 shots on the clock, since then, the shutter mechanisms have been replaced and is working like new.

On this camera, its really served me well...Ill carry this camera over the Sony T200 anyday!

Problems: Apart from the obvious degrading problem of the battery...at 20,000 shots, I aint complainning...

Opinion: I bought the DSC-T1 in May 2004 since when it has been an almost constant companion for business and travel. I've taken almost 14,000 images. It is compact, very easy to carry and easy to use. It takes shots in tight spots other cameras would not be able to access. Battery life has been good. Memory for a full day of picture-taking might take 1 Gb and one battery charge with full detail. I carry a spare battery and extra memory just in case.

Problems: The main problem has been from the beginning has been irratic behaviour with flash. Sometimes the pictures would be brilliant especially in tight places. On other occasions in dark middle-distance shots it didn't seem to work almost as though the flash was not synchronised with the shutter or the camera was reacting to flash-back. Frustrating and and on occasions very disappointing when shots in museums for example did't work out. Over the past six months the flash deteriorated with poor shots most of the time, including simple people group shots that ought to work out easiily. Suddenly a couple of weeks ago white in the images started to turn out pink and the camera is now sadly retired after 3 years busy use.

Opinion: I bought this camera 1.5 years ago because I needed something small I can carry in my jacket pocket when I'm out and cannot carry my DSLR with me. It works well considering its size and the picture is good once you learn how to use it (my first batch of pics were awful until I turned off "intelligent focusing").

This camera if FAST, starts up almost instantly and very low shutter lag in good light. Outdoor picture quality is excellent; however, due to the size, it is very difficult to keep it steady for lowlight & indoor pictures so the flash must be used. The newer T-series cameras fix this problem by adding steadyshot. Low ISO pics are great; however, ISO 400 is not as impressive, but not surprised considering the small sensor that was crammed into this camera.

Overall, this is very good camera for its time; however, the newer Sony T cameras are better buys now & will give you more "keepers".

Problems: - High ISOs are bad, but to be expected from this size of camera.
- Design is very compact, easy to carry in pants/shirt/jacket pockets; however, it makes the camera hard to steady. This results in more blurry pics, because my hands are not the most steady in the world. (larger design and/or image stabilization would help alot)

Opinion: I bought this camera to replace an older Sony that had pooped out. I bought the camera based on size and the fact that I found an excellent deal on it. Or so I thought....
===========
Construction:
Not too bad. The sliding door that covers the battery/memory card department was a little loose and I could feel it move slightly everytime I held the camera. Annoying and made me really conscious of it breaking. But it never really did. The sliding lens cover remained pretty tight and functioned well.

I hated having to use the cradle to use the USB cable. It's just one more thing to keep up with and unnecessary.

===========

Features:
Nothing special here. It's really standard and for the average point-and-shoot user, it should suffice.

===========

Image Quality:
Horrible. If you are taking pictures of people withing 10 feet of you in good light, then the camera does a good job. It also takes decent 'micro' (up close) pictures in good lighting also. Otherwise, it's pathetic.

Taking pictures outside during broad daylight was even bad. The color wasn't good. The images weren't sharp. I tried every setting imaginable and couldn't get satisfactory pictures out of this camera.

At night, trying to take pictures of brigh buildings, etc.. I got nothing but blur allll the time - no matter what mode and settings I used. Even when propping the camera on things to steady it, quality was unacceptable.

===========

Overall.. I would never recommend anyone purchase this camera. Regardless of how tight your budget is, etc.. you can find a much better camera.

Opinion: I had this camera for about year. Since I bought it new I made a numerous attempts to figure out what's wrong with it: The picture quality was not better then those taken with my cell phone! At first I thought that the camera is defective and exchanged it for a new one. Same problem. Then I search all possible forums and tried to manually change all possible settings -- no luck. Then I start talking to other T1 owners and they told me that it's the camera's problem. T1 does take very bad pictures during the day time and the night time as well. I just finally sold this "piece of camera" on ebay for a third of what I paid for it and just happy to get read of it. Now I'm back on the market for an ultra-compact camera and have the option between Canon sd700 is and Sony T9.
Guess what would be my choice....
Do not get me wrong, the design of the camera is great.
I have nothing against SONY since use SONY V1 for few years and very pleased with it. But T1 was the worst experience of my "digital camera" life.

Problems: The picture quality was not better then those taken with my cell phone! Who needs the camera that takes such bad pictures.

Opinion: The T1 is a great camera if you're looking for something easy to carry transport and/or a camera that has quick startup.

Photos taken using flash were horrible. It feels very flimsy in my hand. It's a very slim camera, I know, but if I don't have the wrist strap on, I fear I'll drop it VERY EASILY.

Other than that, it takes exceptional photos in well-lit rooms. Excellent outdoors.

Problems: Flash/build.

Opinion: Excellent camera for snapshots. Small enough to carry everywhere. Battery life adequate. Flash not very effective except at very short distances. Opaque screen is a problem with bright sunlight as it reflects off the screen and makes it difficult to see the scene you are photographing.

Opinion: Great camera!!!
The other reviews that say bad things about it was writen by people that are professional photografer or has a lot of diferent digital cameras at home...

but if you are a common person that just want a small but GOOD camera with an exelent resolution, easy to use this is your camera... this is my second camera and my fist one sux it has like 1 megapixel resolution so I think that 5 MP it is just awesome and compared to my friends 7 mp camera is the same thing

I payed 329 at radioshack (20 october/2005) and I recieved a rebate of 50 dolars... i Think the price is good.

other thing SONY is a great brand...

Problems: No carring case included
does't work as a webcam
(my old one used to...)
