Opinion: I am not a professional photographer, and thats not what this camera is made for. So I dont know why people are whining about picture quality, I am going from a Canon SD300, and the pictures on the Sony look much better. Plus I got a great deal on a black unit for $280.00 direct from Sony! I just wish it was a tad smaller. I think this model is so much better looking then the T-100 and I love the touch screen, which is one reason I opted out of the T-100 and saved $120.
Problems: none yet.
Opinion: The T50 is a nice camera to use. The touch screen makes the many options easy to
get to, without having to wade through so many menus as my old camera
(Cybershot P-120). Although the body is made of metal, it still feels a little delicate.
I'm not sure it would survive if I dropped it. I also worry about the sliding lens cover,
as those kind of moving parts have a tendancy to wear out over time.
Generally though, I find the camera easy and pleasant to use. The real problem is
the image quality. It stinks. Images come out noisy in anything less than fairly bright
daylight. I have played with the settings to try and get rid of it to no avail. The CCD in
this camera just doesn't work well without plenty of light.
I have also noticed a slight blurring at the edges of my images, along with a very
slight fisheye effect. I put this down to the camera being as compact as it is.
I was pleased with my previous Sony camera, so I bought this one. I think next time
I'll investigate other brands. The poor image quality is simply unacceptable in a
camera of this price.
Opinion: godt kamara, skyder rigtige flotte klare billeder...
Opinion: T50 is one of the nicest camera on the market. I admit I fell in love with it on the first sight, so I didn't hesitate long, I bought it. My intention was to have a small snapshot digicam I can take with me easily. The T50 is perfect for this. The huge touchscreen makes it easy to handle. It also makes pretty good quality pictures. Unfortunately only in decent daylight. As soon as you need the flash, you can forget 50-60% of your pictures, they'll be scattered with white spots. The dust and other particles in the air reflect the very strong flashlight in a strange way, causing this very annoying effect. I was very disappointed. All the other functions of the camera are exactly what I wanted, but I also need good pictures in lowlight conditions. It has a picture stabilizer, but that has also its limits, and you'll come to a point where you can't avoid using flash. Even if you use 'Program' mode and set the flash level to Low, it makes awful spots on the pictures. (I have uploaded some test pictures, I would have linked them here, but it is obviously not allowed)
After lots of inner fight I have it sent back to the shop... It's a pity they screwed up such a nice camera. The first time I was disappointed with a Sony product.
Opinion: this camera replaced my Canon sd-800. Canon had the worst video sound ever. It could not handle high volume sounds from concerts. It was very dissapointing.
So now T50 arrives. What a beauty, both from outside and inside.
takes very sharp pictures under most light conditions. Supersteady shot seems to be working better that Canon. High Iso mode has less noise than Canon SD800. The videos have perfect sound quality.
The touch screen is so easy to use and classy.
The battery life is outstanding together with the battery remaining indicator. Canons do not have this indicator for some reason.
I would recommend this camera strongly to any P&S fanatics. especially with a price around $340 online. get the black one by the way ;)
Problems: No wide angle as I am used to at my previous SD800.
No steel body like in Canon SD800.
Opinion: i have to say that i don't usually post this kind of reviews, but in all fairness i want to do some justice to this nice camera, especially against the previous posters here.
if you want to buy this camera read some of the reviews for t30 and t10, i found them more realistic...
even i'm a professional photographer i've bought this camera for my family pictures.
reguarding my previous experience with digital cameras (if relevant):
for my work i' ve owned: nikon d100, fuji s2, kodak 14n, phase one h25 and now phase one p45, soon to be upgrated to p45+.
my previous "family camera" were: nikon 990, canon a70, canon g6 and now sony t50.
the pros:
excelent GUI, intuitive menu.
excelent movie mode, probably industry best at this time (2006), with good AF, zoom during shooting.
very good image quality in the daylight (i mean on the par with any 6mpx DSLR).
very well built.
i don't mind for the lack of raw mode, i highly reccomend this camera for the casual shooter.
if you're interested in raw and stuff, you're probably looking after a DSLR anyway, because the T50 is just another kind of camera.
Problems: the cons:
bad, bad red eye effect (in fact, it is a kind of...white pupils instead of red...)
Opinion: Sony will never learn, there are times when form no matter what will never defeat
function. Sounds like a good camera on paper, but not worth it.
Problems: 1. Quality of image is unacceptable 7.1
2. Internal memory no real use
Opinion: I had to exchange this camera for a different model due to white spots in all my pictures taken with the flash.
Problems: Terrible white spots in all the pictures taken with the flash.
