Opinion: Great 921K LCD. High ISO and twilight mode do deliver. Fun
to operate. No red-eye with flash! A real winner, Sony.

Opinion: I have owned the TX7 for 1 week and have already taken a lot of photos, many of them of a technical nature.
As I become more familiar with the features and operation of the camera my opinion of it grows.

For years I have been looking for a non-extending lens camera that will take good quality pictures and THIS IS IT!
The picture quality is excellent notwithstanding that the camera is very small and very pocketable.
Its low-light performance can be quite awesome, but probably its biggest advantage to me is the very good image stabilization. (It scores way higher than the Canon S90 in this department. See for instance: http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-TX7-Digital-Camera-Review-21496/Canon%20S90-Comp.htm). This allows me to take sharp hand-held shots in room light (without flash).

The touch screen works well, although it is not as sensitive as the screen on my iPhone. This is probably because it is resistive (rather than capacitive), but the upside is that it has a much better response to a writing instrument such as the included pen.. Yes, you can write on a picture and then save the combined image!

Overall a wonderful little camera.

Problems: The camera is a bit hard to hold onto and I feel that Sony would have been better to have not beveled the edges so much, particularly along the top edge.

The sliding front cover is just a bit too hard to operate; it is slippery and the spring force is just a bit too high, but you do get used to it and it has a nice over-center action.

Battery life is not that great, but quite adequate though.

There are a few other minor niggles but they hardly detract from this being easily the best camera I have used.

Opinion: I am extremely happy of the quality of photos in particular low light. But the main reason for my purchase was to have a cheap underwater camera with full HD avdhd capabilities. The result are excellent and can be seen by searching on youtube for "Test of Sony DSC-TX7 MPK-THJ"

Problems: No problems so far, but compared to the H5, the TX7 misses GPS and compass, while the H5 is more feature rich but misses the underwater case...

* face detection mode

* great HD video mode with zoom

* supports SD and MS cards

* compact form factor

Problems: * needs two handed operation to avoid slippage, shake

* Intelligent Pantilter accessory is novel but very limited range and lacks settings

Opinion: Own this camera for two months now and I'm still delighted with it every day. It takes great pictures automatically, the 1080i movie mode is excellent and the high resolution touch screen is gorgeous. No SLR replacement but really a photo/video camera you can take anywhere for the occasion and snap great pictures and video's without fuzz.

Problems: No problems encountered but things that could improve:
- it is too easy to put your finger before the lens
- since the sensor is more sensitive it also is easier overexposed
- battery life when shooting video is less than an hour
- dock is required for download
- you will need a HD screen with HDMI or new computer with HD accelerated graphics to watch your video's

Opinion: I've had this camera only for a day.
These are my impressions so far (please take into account that I haven't fully
explored all the features of this camera).

First a quick explanation of my ratings:

Construction 4.5 - basically excellent: slim, solid, nice movement of the sliding lid,
fantastic glass (confirm?) display, zoom cleverly incorporated inside the camera
body (in my opinion the best solution for compact cameras) - only drawback the
tiny control buttons and particularly the zoom control which will inevitably move
your camera as you operate it, but this is compensated by a very good positioning.

Features 5 - the features in this camera are simply amazing and need an extensive
review

Image quality 4.5 - the lens is not that great and neither is the sensor (but this is
expectable from a consumer camera of this size) however this inevitable drawbacks
are compensated by how every still is processed immediately as you shoot (lens
aberration corrected, most noise reduced by taking several quick exposures of the
shot - HDR). Basically the processor works out a little magic every time you press
the shutter button. The only limit in terms of quality is the lack of RAW or
uncompressed file option.

Ease of use 5 - I haven't fully tested the camera but all operations seems very
intuitive and you can customise some frequently used functions. The touch screen
helps a big deal

Value for money 4.5 - I paid about £300 for this camera from an online shop and I
think that's pretty good value for money ... but it's always possible to do better :)

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and I'll have always handy a camera to
shoot on the go that produces good quality images.

I'd recommend it above any other to anyone looking for a quality pocketable
camera.

Problems: One problem with the touch screen: when browsing images stored in the memory
card and zooming in to check the details moving around an image is not as smooth
as one would imagine.

Another problem I've encountered is with the Party-shot accessory (the intelligent
pantilter IPT-DS1). The option of having the camera operate itself when attached to
this little device was very important for me as that means all the people taking part
to a gathering will be in the photos including myself and also images will be more
natural because taken when people don't expect them.

Well the problem with this accessory is that it was released to the market before this
camera and some batches don't include the necessary adaptor for this camera.
That's what happened to me: basically I can't use the IPT-DS1 with the TX7
because neither came with the adaptor to connect them one another. I have told
about this problem to the shop and to Sony but I'm still awaiting for a definite
response that will solve the problem.

So watch out if you want to use this camera with the Party-shot as you might not
be able to connect the camera and the accessory for the lack of the necessary
adaptor.

Opinion: PRO
excellent pictures.
excellent High Dynamic Range results.
excellent low-light pictures due to the EXMOR-R sensor.
excellent automatic panoramas.
nice and compact layout

Problems: CONTRA
Many functions remain a mystery and unused due to the 170 pages pdf handbook on the CD only. You can't read it on the couch or before going to sleep.
Shaky controls, you tend to press the camera down when releasing the shutter.
Battery can't be charged with the camera in dock.
