Opinion: The ideal camera to always have with you. Very solidly built with a metal case.
I chose it for its size and construction over cheaper cameras with more pixels. I'm glad I did; the images it provides are perfect for web work and of a higher quality than some 3 megapixel cameras I've used.
Its very quick to power up and shoot, battery life is excellent and it has behaved itself with all manner of computers I have connected it to.
No zoom but given the physical size of the camera it would be next to useless trying to hold it steady.
All in all this is a great little camera and I am very pleased with it.
It's much nicer than a camera-phone and unlike those the LCD is visible in all lighting conditions.
Above all, despite its size, it feels like a camera not a toy.
Problems: The user interface is a bit fiddly until you get used to the order of image modes (For instance speed-shutter is five downs on the select button) and can do it without looking.
It's also annoying that it doesn't keep the scene setting between uses - but it does keep the white balance and flash settings.
The half-press for focus could be a bit more definite.
You have to learn to hold it to avoid your finger appearing in the corner of shots (the LCD doesn't provide full coverage, I'd say 90%).
I carry carry a small beanbag around with me so I can place it on surfaces for some shots to remove any chance of blur as it lacks a tripod mount of any kind.
Opinion: Good image quality for such a small digital camera. Despite the tiny size of its CCD and lens, U40 displays decent low light performance and clear images.
Build quality is also superve.
good battery life.

Strictly Point-and-Shoot mini camera
Opinion: This camera is an excellent 2 mega pixel camera. I used it to go on a holiday to India, it took faultless outdoor sunny pictures, handled the sun, brightness with ease. I didn't want to review my pictures most of the time, I just snapped happily away, so the small review screen wasn't even a consideration for me.
Portrait pictures were of good high quality too and I was also able to do a couple of macro flower pictures, but the quality on these wasn't first rate, but average.
The camera does not perform well when moving (in say a bumpy rickshaw or bus or just at passing scenary) I was let down with some good pictures coming out fuzzy. What did I really expect for such a small pocket-size digital camera though! I loved the fact that it was unintrusive, I didn't feel scared about lossing it or getting mugged. Some of the night pictures were impressive, a steady hand is really required with this camera, I was most of the time urgently getting it out and taking impulsive photographs! I had to remember to keep fingers away from the lens too, only one photograph out of 290 had a human finger in the corner - impressive. While sleeping on trains and coaches the long neck cord kept it in place around my neck.
I would definitely recommend this camera to others, its both affordable, a good solid performer and very light weight. When my Sony T1 arrives I shall be comparing them both.
Problems: No technical problems, I was only rather worried about the battery duration, so took extra rechargeables with me, but didn't need them!
I have seen the carry pouch, but didn't think much of it. I used my mobile phone neoprene pouch and this was both light and soft.
No other problems encountered so far.
Flash - well lets talk about that, its a good performer considering its size, but you have to get used to the fact that it is rather powerful, therefore near portraits will come out whiter than expected, you will have to experiment with it, every camera flash seems to have its own personality, and this is no different. Beware, using the flash also eats batteries, think carefully when taking this type of camera on holiday. Consider and extra set of rechargeable batteries and some Durracell ones too!

Opinion: just got it couple of days ago. everyone is amazed at the size. it's a great choice if you are looking for something portable with ultra fast loading and focusing time. good picture quality considering 2 megapixel. great flash for the size.
Problems: no problem yet. pictures get a little grainy under low light environment, but still good enough for most people.
Opinion: Incredible piece of miniaturisation technology. The features of this camera and its performance is quite amazing. I was sold primarily by its size and pretty good picture quality for a 2 megapixel camera. Takes low light pictures quite well in night mode. Great for informal shots and it sports a great wide lens for group shots. Definitely an eye catcher and conversation piece. Fantastic for aerial photography using remote control planes due it's size.
Problems: None encountered though I must say you can easily misplace or lose your grip on the camera if you are not careful. Investing in a good carrying pouch will save your camera from dents and scratches.
Would have preferred a clear plastic or glass layer protecting the LCD panel.
