Opinion: There is better bang for the buck! Would you trade average image quaility for poor ease of use?!

Problems: lens cracked, VERY slow connectivity, some pictures have messed up color.

Opinion: I felt I had to add my two cents about this camera. I have owned the PDR-M1 for about two years now, originally purchased as a point and shoot camera -- in addition to my traditional 35mm's.

Photos are decent, not exceptional -- but at the time, I couldn't find a better image for the $380 I paided for a camera that shoots a 1280x1024 24 bit image. Battery life is good with regular Alkalines and also with NiMH's. I rarely use the LCD so I am sure that helps.

Usage -- the camera is slow to boot, slow to shoot (make sure you autolock the focus before you try to catch a smile from a baby!).. it's slow between shots also. Not the spontaneous camera I was looking for but it does what it does.

I dislike not being able to adjust things manually, though this camera wasn't geared toward someone with that intention.

If you can pick up this camera somewhere for 150-200 dollars I would say that is a great bargain for someone wanting to get into digital cameras.

And pick up a USB smartmedia reader so you can avoid the awful TWAIN drivers and serial port connection. As always, photos always look better after some time in Photoshop!

I may be critical because I shoot daily with a Nikon D1, but that's obviously the difference in cameras.. .and money.

Problems: I have had zero problems with this camera in two years.

Opinion: Was purchased as a point and shoot camera. Found out that it was slow that is was useless to take any shots where action is involved. I am now shopping for a camera that takes faster shots. Nice resolution but images consistently dark.

Problems: none
