Opinion: SMALL: slightly larger than Fuji 2700.

CONVENIENT: no need to buy accessories as everything you need is in the box. Comes with recharger & rechargable battery which can be recharged inside camera. Has USB port (W98 required; W95 can use faster-than-average serial port, also built-in) so no need for smart media reader or flashpath adapter.

FAST: Starts up in 2 seconds & takes pictures 2 seconds apart. You can press the trigger quick after taking last shot, just like on regular film camera.

Has "motorized" mode where it can take sequential shots -- FOUR PER SECOND! -- at full resolution (1600 x 1200, up to four shots) or half resolution (800 x 600, up to sixteen shots).

Super low-light long exposure mode -- not too much image noise -- even with 4- or 8-second exposures.

Problems: Power adapter is 110V-only, unlike some others like Fuji 2700 which is universal (110v-220V)

No software is supplied to use "multi mode photo" (16 frame mini-movie, each frame 400x300, combined into one 1600x1200 image) externally, for example to convert to animated GIF. However, a free program "animator-9" is available at http://come.to/plaw

Althugh camera has built-in clock & calendar, supplied software doesn't seem able to record date/time photo was taken and have that info available on JPEG images transferred to the computer.

Opinion: Pictures taken with natural light are excellent but the interior pictures taken with its weak flash are too dark.
Another problem on the PDR-M4 is that it can't focus properly in low light conditions.
For the money, it is excellent. It is fast and the file transfer to PC using USB is very good.

Problems: Focusing in dark conditions.

Opinion: I have used this camera now for over six months. I rate it as an excellant buy for the money. It produces very good to excellant pictures in most situations. The flash problem is easily remedied with a slaved flash on a bracket or hand held. The only real problem I forsee is the plastic used for the tripod mount.I believe this is a better machine than the M5,except for the zoom function.

Problems: None to date.

Opinion: My first digi cam. Comparing it to everything in my price range (<$400), this camera seemed the most solid with the best features. A key sticking point for me was having a USB port built-in. Along with the USB, it has smartmedia cards AND a video port. Very cool.
While only 2 resolutions, 16x12 and 8x6, they both look extreamely good for a 'lower' end camera.
While pictures in the dark are difficult to take, setting the camera to 'dark picture' mode compensates greatly to help.
Having an auto-light sensor was a nice surprise as well.

Problems: dark rooms can cause dark shots, make sure 'night' option is set on to help
