Opinion: Toshiba PDR-M60, Mode knob broke off. finally got a free knob after contacting my state 'pa' attorney general, i've also contacted the consumer product safety commision to try and get it recalled because it is a child safety issue.
Problems: Mode knob broke off,
Opinion: I purchased a refurbished Toshiba PDR-M60 digital camera on 7/31/01. On Tuesday, 5/13/03, the selector dial fell off of the camera. Since I had purchased an extended warranty, I called Toshiba. I gave them all of the information, they gave me a claim number and said someone would call within 4 hours to tell me where to take the camera for repairs. I never received a call, so I called back on Thursday, 5/15/03 and was told that the claim was denied due to "abuse." I explained that the camera had not been abused, that it was never used improperly. The selector dial must be turned in order to take pictures, view the pictures, download, set time, etc. It simply fell off and now will not stay on the camera. I was also told that if I could find someone to fix the camera and they determined that it was not abuse, but that the problem was a defect, Toshiba might reimburse me for the cost of the repair. After spending weeks trying to find a replacement dial or someone who could fix it, my husband located a gentleman who said he had fixed several of these cameras and would charge $89.00 for the repair. Unfortunately, he is now telling us that the part is no longer available to repair the camera.
Problems: Mode dial fell off. Could not get any help from Toshiba to repair or replace this item. I will no longer be purchasing products from Toshiba.
Opinion: Never again, Toshiba! The mode dial problem leaves me with a worthless camera (which I had liked) and no respect for the brand. I won't even consider a Toshiba product in the future. Their refusal to support this model especially after it is clear the problem is ubiquitous just makes me mad. Moving on to a new manufacturer.
Opinion: I agree with everything posted so far including the dial falling off while my 7 year old was carrying the camera. I blamed him for the loss of the dial. Now I am researching this and found this site explaining the problems. I can now tell my son it is Big Bad Toshiba's fault and not his!

Opinion: verry goon camera, good fotos.i bee glad for the camera.
Problems: no.
Opinion: Appalling support from Toshiba. Like hordes of others, my Mode Dial has fallen off. Toshiba keeps telling me to buy the part from one of their authorized reps, who in turn are telling me that the part is no longer available, Toshiba no longer supporting this product. Classic Catch-22 situation. After less than 2 years!!!!!!? This is a simple mechanical part that should not ever fail.
Problems: I'm another of the many victims of Mode Dial falling off. The support from Toshiba has been absolutely appalling. With so many people worldwide with the same camera suffering the same failure, Toshiba has on their hands the potential for a class action lawsuit.

Opinion: If you have this camera, chances are very good you will have a problem with the mode dial or the battery compartment. Both are of very weak construction/design. Wear on the tabs for the battery compartment can be controlled with careful use, but the mode dial is not. The four pins that hold the dial into place are very weak and break even with careful useage. Toshiba has stopped selling replacement dials, instead requiring you to trade the camera in at a price for a refurbished model. It seems they have made the dial problem into a profit earning problem this way. The trade in is simply not cost effective, as you end up with a camera with the same weak dial for a little bit less than a new camera. My displeasure with how Toshiba has handled this will keep me from ever buying anything from Toshiba again. If you are looking to buy one, I would strongly recommend against it.
Problems: Mode Dial
Opinion: Mode knob broke off after one year. Jap's lost WW@ and trying to make us pay after 50 years. i didn't buy mine. I selected it from Toshiba's catalog resulting from a class action sute filled in Texas. Piece of crap
Problems: Broken mode knob
Opinion: I have had the camera four 5 months. I was excited with the picture quality I received. Easy to use, and connection. However, there seems to be a REAL durability problem here.
Problems: After only 17 uses of the camera, the Mode Rotary button fell off when turning it on. Upon further inspection, I noticed just how cheap this part is attached. 4 miniscule plastic posts hold the rotary dial top to the base! This wouldn't stand much more than a 30 MPH wind, let alone constant use. Owners beware, do NOT use this dial very often, instead let the camera power off using the "idle mode"! And shame on Toshiba for not backing their product and leaving us consumers stuck with a useless piece of plastic!
