Opinion: manufacturing flaw: looking into the viewfinder you can see on the bottom left side, the casing to the lens, creating a distraction to the image you're trying to shoot.
Opinion: After using a simple digicam for a couple of years (Fuji MX-1200), I wanted to upgrade to a simple and cheap high-res camera. The PDR-M61 was cheap and cheerful, but a few things annoyed me about it. The design of the camera leaves a little to be desired, and looks a bit like 'My First Camera'. Also, is seems to take an age to calculate the focus and exposure. Picture quality is as expected for a 2.3 megapixel. Zoom is adequate.
Opinion: The design of this camera is almost perfect. Almost because
when you look through the viewfinder you see the lens! This is
silly. However, I will mostly look through the LCD on the back
to take photos. Other than that the design looks rugged and
feels solid and easy to handle. The features are easy to use
and it comes with a full 1yr warrenty. Image-wise, the quality is
great and it comes with a close-up Macro setting. You can get
a couple of inches away from your target and come out with
great photos. The value was good for a 2.3 Megapixel. I paid
$299 for my camera.
Problems: You can see the edge of the lens in the viewfinder.
Opinion: I also spent $299. at CompUSA and for the money I think this camera hits the mark. How many people out there are taking Professional pictures with a camera sold at this price??
The camera is easy to use, takes great pictures, and is good on batteries if you don't use the LCD too much. I use the viewfinder to frame my shots and although I would have preferred not to see any of the lens barrel, it doesn't stop me from framing my shot. I then look at the results briefly on the LCD after shooting some shots and can easily discard what I don't care to keep. A GREAT CAMERA FOR THE MONEY FOLKS. I bought 64MB of Smart Media on E-Bay and this seems to be adequate. I was going to spend up to $499. for an Olympus and I'm glad I didn't. Count me as a Satisfied Customer.
Problems: Virtually none.
