Opinion: Bright and sharp pictures. Like X-contact and sturdy body,
extended AVI movie mode and fast downloading and startup.
Problems: None
Opinion: This camera has exceeded my expectations and made me very happy. Here are some of the reasons why . . .
- When printed at 4x6, the pics it takes (2048 x 1536) look fantastic, indistinguishable (by me) from a 35mm print.
- The videos (with sound) can really capture moments better than stills. With an editing program (like ULead Video Studio 4) you can create a nice little "documentary" instead of just having a series of snaps to commemorate something. It's fun and cheap! Other cameras allow you to create videos, but many of these other cameras limit you to 30 seconds at a time. Believe me, this isn't enough! At 320 x 240, medium quality, you can capture 90 seconds. Plus you can use the zoom during videos, which most other cameras don't let you do.
- It has a couple of multi-image modes. In one of them you can take (at full resolution) 8 quick snaps with one push of the button. You can then choose the ones you want to save, and discard the others. It's great for capturing just the right instant, and the user interface (for picking the pics you want) is very well designed.
Overall, I compared the 3 MPixel cameras and chose this one because of the features that differentiate it from the others. The user interface - buttons and two displays - is well designed.
Problems: - In certain situations (low light?) the camera has a problem focusing. This includes both stills and video use.
- In video mode you can hear electronic chatter on the soundtrack as the camera adjusts focus and zoom.
- It gets downgraded on construction because the lens cap is a cheap plastic one you're sure to lose.
Opinion: The more I use this camera, the better I like it! It takes great pictures, and even though it has shutter priority and aperture priority modes, the automatic mode makes excellent images under most circumstances.
And talk about feature rich. Movies up to 5 minutes. An audio recorder that records for hours. External flash socket. Video out. Fast USB download to a computer. I could go on.
I've taken over 3000 pictures with this camera, and I love it! One of the other reviewers said you can't tell 4X6 printouts from this camera from a film picture. I print 8X10's on my HP Deskjet 970 all the time, some of them of cropped images, that you can't tell are not film.
Problems: Short battery life. I like to take lots of pictures, and the camera takes about 60 pictures on a battery. I partially got around this by buying a couple of spares, but that cost me about $100. If you do get a spare, get the higher capacity PDR-BT2 (1300 mAH) instead of the PDR-BT1 (1100 mAH). Also, use the viewfinder instead of the LCD when possible.
A minor thing: the optional auxiliary lens mount tube blocks part of the picture in the viewfinder, but not the picture. It also casts a shadow in the flash.
Opinion: I was doing my research probably a few months before I bought this camera,
considering Casio 3000, Nikon 990, Canon S20, Olympus and others of 3.3+Mpx
I've chosen Toshiba because it is really the best choice from the view of money + overall
performance. This camera can be used either by amateur or professional. Once you start
to play with it you realise how powefull it is. When using manual mode you can create "magic" if you smart and consistent. All the review I've read blaming quality in low light. What about conventional cameras and low light? Use additional light and manual mode-everything is in this camera avalaible for your convinience. For me it works better using Tv then Av mode in low light, and it is really impressible in portait and macro modes.
Conclusion: very good value for average of users even if you need professional standard features and quality though
Problems: Drawbacks:
- Smart Cards are really expensive( 32 and 64 Mb unexeptably high price)
- Short Battery life but still not so bad
- Doesn't work with Type II memory(example IBM microdrive)
- Crapy lens cover(until you get used you touch a lens sometimes when you open it)
- Some color vibrations depending on the light conditions (every digicam has the same trouble more or less)
