We used auto white balance (as for the other cameras) but oddly the D1x image ended up with a very slight 'cool cast' (blue). On the average sRGB monitor this will probably make whites look 'whiter'.
We're only measuring colour below. RGB values below were taken from a VGA reduced image (to average colours and eliminate JPEG artifacts) using the Eyedropper tool in Photoshop with a 5 by 5 Average Sample Size.

Shots here are of the PIMA/ISO 12233 standard resolution test chart (more of which are available in our comparison database). This resolution chart allows us to measure the actual performance of the lens and sensor system. It measures the ability of the camera to resolve lines at gradually higher resolutions and enables us to provide a definitive value for comparison purposes. Values on the chart are 1/100th lines per picture height. So a value of 8 equates to 800 lines per picture height.
Studio light, cameras set to auto, all settings factory default. Exposure compensation +0.7 EV for all cameras.

Results just as we expected, the D1x performs extremely well in the horizontal direction with clear usable detail at 1500 lines per picture height and continues to deliver detail information to well over 2000 lines per picture height. Vertical resolution is identical to the D1. Still, there's some moire in the vertical resolution at frequencies above 1200 lines per picture height (again, we saw this in just a few of our real life shots). These results put the D1x on the top of the resolution pile (at least of D-SLR's we've tested).
