Putting aside the sensor for a minute the biggest difference between the S5 Pro and the D200 it is based on is in the user interface and menu system. Despite suffering in comparison with Nikon's superb interface the S5 Pro is a massive improvement over the S3 Pro (and its predecessors). Yes, it's a bit convoluted, and yes the decision to get rid of Nikon's custom functions and replace them with a separate 'SETUP' menu seems arbitrary and counterproductive, but I rarely found the S5 Pro to 'get in the way'. |

Help pages
The S5 Pro has a similar help feature as the D200; any setting with available help is indicated by a Face Detect icon (because that's the button you press to see it) and the word 'HELP' in the top right of the screen. Press and hold the Face Detect button to display a context sensitive help page. Many of the topics are actually several pages long (the up and down buttons are used to scroll through the pages). The examples below show the first two pages of the film simulation mode help pages.

Shooting Menu
The shooting menu is split into three pages of options that you scroll through using the up / down keys - when you reach the top or bottom of one page scrolling further takes you to the next (or previous page - if the page number is highlighted you can use the left / right keys to jump pages. That's an awful lot of scrolling if you're not sure where the setting you're looking for is located, but in normal use you're unlikely to go beyond page 1 that often (page 2 is mostly stuff you can change using the external controls and the top panel LCD and you'll only need page 3 if you use Live View or multiple exposures).
A green superscript one (¹) indicates the default setting.
