Record display
 |
Here we can see an example of the default live display view, the
center brackets indicate the auto focus area. Information overlaid
in this case:
4 MP image size, image quality setting ( ),
Flash cancel, Macro focus, Battery status, 24 frames remaining at
this Image quality, -0.5 EV exposure compensation.
|
 |
 |
| Here we're already half-pressed the shutter release and are ready
to shoot. The AF brackets have turned green to indicate a good AF
lock, if auto focus fails the brackets turn red and 'UNABLE TO FOCUS',
'FOCUS TOO CLOSE' or 'FOCUS TOO FAR' (macro) will be displayed on
the monitor. |
After shooting a review of the image taken is displayed briefly
(approximately 3 seconds). |
 |
 |
| An example of movie record mode, note that the remaining time (4:19
in this case) refers to the total amount of 1 minute clips you would
be able to take. Note the frame coverage is slightly different in
movie clip mode. |
Here's an example of the way the 850 uses text prompts to indicate
settings or mode changes. In this example we've changed exposure compensation. |
 |
 |
| Example of aperture priority mode, in this case we have half-pressed
the shutter release after selecting F5.9 and the camera is indicating
that the exposure will be outside the camera's exposure range. |
Example of shutter priority mode, again half-press after setting
the shutter speed to 1/30 sec, in this case the camera has selected
an aperture of F5.0. |
 |
 |
| Zooming past the maximum optical telephoto enters digital zoom mode,
on the 850 this is indicated by a cropping box which reduces in size
as you zoom further. This is a particularly honest approach to digital
zoom... |
Here's an example of Manual preset white balance, select 'Manual'
from the white balance menu, aim at a white object and half-press
the shutter release to take a white balance reading. |

Play display
 |
 |
| This is the default Play mode display, frame count is
indicated in the bottom right of the image. Use the left and right
cursors on the 4-way controller to browse through images. |
This was difficult to capture as it takes less than
a second. The 850 uses a 'smooth scroll' between images, sliding the
next image on from the left or the right and pushing the current image
off the screen. |
 |
 |
| Pressing the OK button displays the menu sidebar over
the left side of the image. This is the only way to access the delete,
annotate, and magnify functions. |
Selecting delete from the menu displays this option
page, you can delete this image, all images or format the SD card.
The 850 even animates the deletion of an image [clip]. |
 |
 |
| Selecting magnify from the menu switches to this 4x
magnification view, use the 4-way controller to scroll around the
magnified image. |
Pressing the Image Mark button allows you to mark the
image for printing (one or two copies) and/or transmission by e-mail. |
